Welcome to the 2008-2009 school year!  My name is Colleen Najm, and I look forward to being your son or daughter’s Spanish teacher this year. I have been teaching Spanish at Venice High School since 1981 and still enjoy the challenge of educating students. 

As a teacher and a parent, I have learned that in order for our children to be successful, you and I work must together in guiding them to learn responsibility for their education. I would like for you to send me your email address so that we can correspond about your child’s progress.

With the new schedule this year, I have 6 classes and almost 200 students.  It is difficult to stay in contact with so many parents on the phone, but very easy to send an email.  Phone calls are always welcome, but emails make it easier to quickly communicate a concern.

Please complete the signature sheet that your child will bring home during the first week of school with your email address and signatures. Thank you.

In addition, I recommend that you access the SmartWeb online grading system.  It is a valuable tool to know exactly what your child is doing in the areas of grades and attendance. You can become aware of problems before it is too late to correct them. I check my own children’s progress frequently and find it to be extremely beneficial. If you are not signed up yet, call the school for information. 

Also, check my web site for a weekly schedule, downloads, and links to sites that help students practice Spanish. I look forward to communicating with you, and thank you in advance for your support.
