Week of May 21, 2012

I'm sure you noticed that no new spelling words were sent home last week.  I 
will no longer have weekly spelling words (or tests).  I will spend the 
remaining weeks reviewing skills that were previously taught throughout the 
year.  I will be sending home a suggested summer reading list and a complete 
list of Dolch words for all levels for practice over the summer.

Next week I will begin testing the children on Dolch List #4.  I'm sure they 
are prepared.

By now I'm sure you know that our Graduation Ceremony is scheduled for 
Friday, June 1st at 9 AM in our cafetorium.  We will be supplying the 
children with the shirt.  Along with the shirt, they need to wear NAVY PANTS 
OR A NAVY SKIRT AND BLACK DRESS SHOES.  NO SHORTS OR SNEAKERS ALLOWED.  
Please do not wait until the last minute to try and purchase these items.  
Get them now so you won't be rushed.  Remember, we have almost 100 
Kindergarteners (all from the same area)who all wear about the same 
size,looking for the same items to buy.  If you can't buy them, borrow from a 
friend!  Ask around.  The children only need to wear these items for a few 
hours.  Just make sure they look nice.  Thanks.

****DON'T FORGET THAT THE CHILDREN WILL BE GOING HOME AFTER THE GRADUATION 
CEREMONY.  PLEASE PLAN A SPECIAL DAY FOR YOU AND YOUR CHILD.  THEY'VE WORKED 
SO HARD TO MAKE THIS GRADUATION A SUCCESS AND THEY SHOULD BE REWARDED. Thanks 
for your support and cooperation.

Introduce theme 10 World of Animals.
Improving independent writing.
Have your child keep a home journal for practice.
Retell story in sequence.
Introduce cause and effect.
Identify setting and main characters in stories.
Work on building sentences using rhyming words. (The cat sat on the mat.)
Practice blending short /o/ words and /e/ words.
Continue compound words.  Try and write sentences using compound words.
Continue contractions.

Math:

Review previous skills that have been taught throughout the school year.
