How many spelling words do we have?

We have a different number of words on our word list each week. Usually 
eight to ten and challenge words on the back.

Students write their new words each week in their student planner. Look 
there.

All first graders learn by revisiting new information. Review lists contain 
many already studied words.

What if the lists seem too easy for my child?

The reading series mandates what words we teach in class. However, you can 
challenge your child by asking them to write or use each word in a sentence 
or by looking  up the definitions.

How do I help my student build vocabulary?

Talk to them about unfamiliar words and see if they know what  the word 
means. Read to your child every day. Thirty percent of all vocabulary comes 
from words the student has heard.
