How do I get my work if I am absent and when is it due?

If you are absent Monday from my class, and come to school Tuesday, you
should come by my room or call a friend or check the website (all three!) to
get your assignment and be prepared and current when you return to class
Wednesday. Per Duval County policy, you have one day for each day absent to
submit missed work.

Do you take late work?

If you are in class and you do not have your homework completed, I will not
accept it late. If you have been absent, late work is accepted only under
the conditions listed above.

I don't get it. I need help. What do I do?

Come see me for tutoring after school--sign up sheet is next to my desk.
Other options: If you need writing help, check out the website links for
the online writing labs. If you need help understanding literature, try
group reading/analysis at home; I can also provide reading strategies to
help you better comprehend the material and become a more active reader.
Try reading aloud. Most importantly, come to class and come ready to ask
and answer questions!

Do you offer extra credit?

Occasionally/Rarely.

Where can I get the books I need for this class?

Try Chamblin's Book Mine on Roosevelt Boulevard, or the College Book Racks
in town. Of course, Amazon, half.com, etc. are always good bets, too.
Here's why I recommend Chamblin's: you can gather up some old books lying
around your house and take them in for trade--and save some cash!

Can I pass this class if I don't think I can pass the AP?

Absolutely!!! Remember, our goal is for you to pass the exam so that you
have one less English class to sit through in college. (Of course, I hope
you learn to love literature along the way and that you become proficient
writers, too!) If you work diligently throughout the year, keep up with
your reading, and take advantage of the available safety nets when you need
them, it is possible for you to pass the class and not pass the exam.
Please remember, though, that EVERYONE must take the exam.

What is the attendance policy in your class?

Paxon's attendance policy states that after you miss a class four times
within one grading period, whether your absence is excused or unexcused, you
must take a comprehensive quarter exam--the creation, format, and
admininstration time of which is at the teacher's discretion--in order to
earn a passing grade for that quarter, regardless of your previous grade in
the class.

Will you read over my college essay/write a letter of recommendation?

Absolutely! If you are a current student, we will create a college
portfolio to help sort through these matters. Former students, please feel
free to contact me, too; I am glad to assist your college entry process in
whatever way possible. I simply ask that you give me adequate notice and
information (outside of class time)so that I can give your "letter" fair
time and consideration.
