Welcome!     This year I am teaching Language Arts and Social Studies.  Our administration has purchased a couple of different programs that we will be using throughout the year.  In Language Arts we are using a program called "Bridges."  Bridges is a reading program that focuses on the basics of reading.  It has a strong phonics base and most of the story questions focus on main idea, inference, and author's purpose.  When possible our class will use some of the Kagan strategies for group work. 

HOMEWORK:   I do not give homework everynight, so I will not be posting on the website.  HOWEVER, every student has a set of textbooks at home.  There was one textbook for Language Arts and a textbook for U.S. History.  On any given night, particularly Monday through Thursday, your child is encouraged to read for 20 minutes.  Between these 2 textbooks there are hundreds of interesting stories.  Please, have your child read to you or to a sibling.  Our school's Media Center will open within the next two weeks for students to begin checking out books.  Each child will have a choice as to the book they check out.  This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to read for enjoyment.
