SMS Panther Patrol

Students & Parents,

I am the School Resource Officer at Sarasota Middle School, and I am recruiting students for a safety and leadership program on campus called Panther Pride Patrol.  The goal is to encourage school pride and school ownership by getting students involved in campus and community safety.  Students will strenghten their leadership skills by practicing the community of caring principles and team building activities. Members will meet to discuss current issues and problems facing students on campus and in the community.  Members will meet monthly to discuss campus safety, crimes involving students, the Crime Stopper program, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, Internet safety, and the leadership characteristics of responsibility, respect, trust, caring,, and family .  There will be guest speakers (K-9, SWAT, M.A.D.D., and area leaders) with at least one Criminal Justice related field trip each year.  Members can also volunteer to work leadership and fund raiser details with me during school functions (volleyball games, basketball games, track meets, school dances,etc...).

Panther Patrol will consist of 6th, 7th, & 8th graders who want to learn about law enforcement and leadership with a desire to implement positive changes in their school, community and personal lives.  Members must be excellent role models for other students, and should therefore demonstrate a positive attitude, high morals, good academics, and good communication skills.

Applications are available in the media center.  Student interest has been high, and the number of available positions is limited.  Members will be selected based on academic grades, behavior, attendance, teacher recommendations, application essays, and/or age (eighth graders and past members will be given preference).

Please call or stop by my office during school hours with any questions you might have (Sarasota Middle School 361-6464).

                                                            Sincerely,

                                                            Det. Rob Crane
