Spelling Strategies

Learning how to spell a set of words on a weekly basis can be a little
difficult a times. Here are some strategies to help you practice the
spelling/vocabulary words.

-Remembering how to spell new words always use the LOOK-THINK-COVER-
WRITE-CHECK method. This is how it works.
        * LOOK carefully at the new word.
        * THINK about the parts of the word which might cause problems.
        * COVER the word and close your eyes.
        * WRITE the word down without looking back.
        * CHECK to see if you're right.

-Have a spelling/vocabulary bee with your family members. Make sure to use
the words you will be tested on that week.

-Write the words in shipshape form
         Example: APPLE
                         A
                         AP
                         APP
                         APPL
                         APPLE

-Write the words 5 times each.

-Write the words in a sentence.

-ABC Order.

-Hangman

-Write a letter to a friend or family member using 6 of the spelling words.

-Write each spelling word. Draw a green circle around each vowel. Draw a red
line under each consonant.

-Play Scrabble using only the words of the week.

-Make your own word search.

-Create flash cards: Spelling/Vocabulary word on one side of the card. The
definition on the other side of the card.

Have Fun and Good Luck!!!
