What activities take place to help my 5th grader adjust to middle school?
Several activities are planned throughout the spring to help your student
make a smooth transition to middle school. The dates for the different
activities are listed on the Announcement Section of this web site.
The activities will include a field trip to the middle school, visits from
the sixth grade counselor to rising 6th graders at Addison, and guidance .

What immunizations are needed for middle school?
All students entering 5th grade must have 2 MMR vaccines, 3 Hepatitis B
vacines and a proof of immunity to varicella in their records. You should
receive a notice sometime during the fourth nine weeks if your student does
not have these immunizations. These must be on form #3231. Please call
Sue Fulton, our Attendance Clerk, at 770-578-2700 if you have any
questions.

Do I have to complete a registration form?
Yes, all students must complete the Cobb County registration form. If you
do not your student will not be asigned clases at the middle school.
If you have moved and have a new address when school is over in May and
you know that your student will not be attending his/her designated middle
school, please notify Janey Gill (770-578-2003).

Addison 5th graders will either attend JJ Daniell Middle School or Simpson
Middle School .

How can I help my child get ready for middle school?
Middle school transition for your 5th grader can be exciting yet
frigntening. The number one concern that comes up each year with 5th
graders centers around their locker and locks. Mrs. Gill has a whole
lesson where she teaches students how to work a combination lock and
helps them to feel comfortable using it. You can help your child by
purchasing a lock this summer and letting them practice using it.
Another major concern they have is fitting in with their peers. Please
talk to your students about peer pressure. Tell them what is was like
for you when you where that age. The next three years are like being on
a roller coaster with your child because of their emotions, wanting to be
their own person, and the adjustments to a new school and learing
environment. Pick your battles with them and always keep the doors of
communication open with them. They may not want to talk when you want
them to talk. Just be available when they are ready.
Mrs. Gill has a sign in her room that 5th graders always pick up on when
they visit her. It says, "What is popular is not always right. What is
right is not always popular." Popularity is a huge thing with 5th and
6th graders. Help your child feel comfortable with who they are. We
all have our strengths and weaknesses. Help them capitalize on those
strengths and work on those weaknesses.
