Homework

The most important "homework" for all first graders
should be to read and read some more! This definitely
includes parents or sibling reading TO the child and
discussing the books, as well as children reading for
themselves. (See "Reading Tips for Parents" link on
    this website.)

It is also important to remember that first graders
in Cobb County are now responsible for gaining
quick recall of math facts to 20 in both addition and
subtraction, along with an understanding of the concepts.

Participating in family board games is a great way to
develop math sense and purpose for reading. You will
think of many creative and natural ways to foster these
important skill from home. Additionally, this website has
multiple resources under "Learning Links" for math practice,
development of reading skills, and growth in knowledge and
    higher level thinking skills.

Beginning sometime in September, weekly homework calendars
will be sent home on Mondays to be returned by Friday
morning with the student's work. Ocassionally, there will also
be project-based assignments with individual due dates.
