2007-2008 First Semester
First Quarter
Week 1
Mon, 8/11 - read "Archetypes" handout before tomorrow and begin
reading "Info Packet"; bring OSR
Tue, 8/12 - review archetypes handout/notes; read info
packet
Wed, 8/13 - work on questions for "Info Packet" (due
Friday); be aware that you will receive additional work in class tomorrow -
you will have class time to begin but will have to complete that by Friday as
well; bring OSR for Friday
Thu, 8/14 - slight change in plans: your info packet
questions are still due tomorrow but the "World Myths" questions are due
Monday; tomorrow is a work day, meaning you may work on Monday's
homework, read BES, or OSR
Fri, 8/15 - Cheyenne/Genesis questions due Monday
** Check out the 'DISCUSSION' link for your class. **
Week 2
Mon, 8/18 - decipher (as best you can) the pictographs of
the Delaware tribe's creation story as presented in the Walam Olum
Tue, 8/19 - complete HO3 (questions from introduction
and preface) for class tomorrow
Wed, 8/20 - HO8 due Friday; I will be giving you a couple
of other handouts in class tomorrow, hoping you can complete them in class; if
not, at least one of them will carry over as homework (in other words, plan
ahead so you're not overwhelmed Thursday night)
Thu, 8/21 - OK, so you're already overwhelmed. No problem,
we'll pull back a bit. HO8 is due Monday; we'll use tomorrow's class time to
work on it and you may ask me questions to guide you in your answers - but
only if you've already done some work (I won't do it for you). I won't give
any additional homework over the weekend so if you got a good start last night
you'll be able to relax a bit on Saturday and Sunday.
Fri, 8/22 - whew! Feeling a bit better? Homework is to
complete HO8 for Monday - and keep REreading!
Hellooooo? Is anyone even remotely interested in the
Discussion Forum?
Week 3
Mon, 8/25 - remember our discussion in class; look over your
responses to HO8 and determine if you are answering appropriately (do you
understand what the question asks of you?) and completely (are you
really trying, or just scratching the surface?)
Tue, 8/26 - if you are confused about the conceptual
issues we're dealing with (archetypes, inter-connectedness, etc.),
review the answers I gave you in class today; if that doesn't clear things up
you need to seek my assistance before or after school (soon); review my answer
for #7 and be prepared to discuss it tomorrow; keep the handout I gave you and
use it as a reference for blending quotes, citing page references (single
source), punctuating quotes/citations, editing quotes to grammatically fit
your response, and note-taking/organizational skills
Wed, 8/27 - you received several handouts today... HO9
we will continue to work on in class tomorrow; HO10 we'll discuss a bit on
Friday (so get started) but won't actually be due until Tuesday; HO15 won't be
due until after we've completed HO10 discussions; homework tonight is to peruse
handouts 10 and 15
Thu, 8/28 - no change from what we discussed in class; I'm
not being any more specific because nobody checks my website anyway (why do I
even bother? you guys are hurting my feelings!); see ya tomorrow
Week 4
Tue, 9/2 - complete HO12-13 for tomorrow; you must, MUST, MUST
read and reread Chapter 3; do this by Thursday for absolutely positively
certain (see all the imperatives?)
Wed, 9/3 - HO15 due Thursday; we'll continue working on
HO16 in class tomorrow and maybe Friday... we'll see how it goes
Thu, 9/4 - change in plans: HO15 Monday; complete HO16
tomorrow in class
Fri, 9/5 - no change from yesterday; give the AP Grading
Rubric a look this weekend - it should be in your notebook but, if not, check
this link: http://teacherweb.com/GA/Aquinas/AJLloyd/photo1.stm
Week 5
Mon, 9/8 - be sure you have re-read Ch. 4-6 by Wednesday
Tue, 9/9 - no change, no additional homework
Wed, 9/10 - put HO17 in your notebook for reference... but
be sure you know the answers - you'll see the questions again; HO22-23 should
be completed by tomorrow; HO21 due Monday; OSR on Friday: bring a book!!
We'll do Ch. 7-9 and Ch. 10-13 next week. Be ready to
start Tuesday.
Thu, 9/11 - compose a poem as we discussed in class (due
Monday); instructions:
-
write 20 lines that begin with "my"
-
write 20 lines that begin with "I am"
-
these lines should be serious in tone (not somber, gloomy, etc.)
-
these lines should be reflective of you and your life
-
they will vary in length
-
compose a poem (25-35 lines) from these 40 lines
-
include a 3-line chant that repeats 2 times
-
(remember that minimal effort does not impress me)
-
be expressive!
Week 6
Mon, 9/15 - I gave you several handouts today at the end of
class; so we're clear: HO24.27 and HO26 are for reference (put them in your
notebook and keep track of them); HO 25 (questions for Ch. 7-9) is due
Wednesday
Tue, 9/16 - due date for HO25 changed to Thursday; HO28B
(parable) due Monday; no other homework, but notice we've stepped up the pace
a bit - stay ahead of things by reading (REreading) ahead
Wed, 9/17 - no new homework; complete HO25 by tomorrow and your
parable by Monday
Thu, 9/18 - HO32 (Ch. 12-14 questions) due Monday - since
I will NOT be collecting them they do not need to be written in formal
language (use whatever short-hand and abbreviations work for you), but you DO
need to do complete, thorough, and accurate work (include quotations and
citations as appropriate)
Fri, 9/19 - no change from above: parables and HO32 due
Monday
Week 7
Mon, 9/22 - REread Ch. 15-17 by Wed
Tue, 9/23 - I gave you four handouts today: HO35 (Ch.
15-17 Qs) due Thursday; HO36-37 are for reference, as is the handout about
sacred clowns
Wed, 9/24 - as we discussed in class, HO35 is postponed
until Friday
Week 8
Mon, 9/29 - sorry for the lapse in posting (though apparently
most of you didn't notice it anyway); you are to have Ch. 18-22 done by today
and the rest of the book completed by Wednesday
Tue, 9/30 - Ch. 22-25 by tomorrow
Wed, 10/1 - you'll get another set of discussion questions
tomorrow and will have an opportunity to work in groups to prepare for
discussion of Ch. 18-21 and Ch. 22-25
Thu, 10/2 - you need to complete the handouts in your
groups tomorrow - I think I'll check on each group toward the end of the period
Week 9
Mon, 10/6 - I gave you a week-long assignment and a suggested
schedule to keep - this is probably the only post for this week
Week 10
Tue, 10/14 - Cover your textbooks!
read the "Notable Puritans" handout and (sparingly) highlight what you think
most important; read Bradford's "from: Plymouth Plantation" by
Monday, which is on page 28(?) in your book - I'll give you more specific
instructions Thursday
Thu, 10/16 - by Monday: read p. 3-18; read Bradford's
excerpt "from: "Plymouth Plantation" (26); answer #1,3,4 (35)
and find four "proofs" that God directs and controls the events and forces of
the universe (according to the Puritan concept of predestination);
it's not too early to get copies of The
Crucible and The Scarlet Letter (I can/will
provide you copies if needed, but I strongly reccommend you get your own so
you may write in the margins)
2nd Quarter
Week 11
Mon, 10/20 - by Wednesday, do the four readings discussed in
class: "Burning of Our House" (69), "Huswifery" (72), "Sinners" (77), and

includes any and all information found within the range of assigned pages -
