ExpectationsCommon Questions
What are the classroom rules and regulations? Since you are in high school, I expect you to behave maturely and respectfully to faculty, staff, each other, and school property. As young adults you should also be responsible TO yourself and FOR yourself. I do not like to impose too many rules; however, below are a few that I must insist upon. All necessary materials and texts should be in class every day unless otherwise instructed. Do not ask me what we will need each day: if you do not know, bring everything. If you do not have the appropriate materials, you may expect a detention. Check this link for "appropriate materials." http://teacherweb.com/GA/Aquinas/AJLloyd/faq2.stm Assignments and tests/quizzes are always announced in advance (except "pop- quizzes"); absences do not excuse you from turning in homework or from taking tests on the day you return (within reason). Additionally, long-term assignments are expected to be submitted ON TIME. You know you have a deadline: make arrangements to meet it whether you are present or not. Plan ahead so that you can turn in your work on time. (Remember, computers crash, printers run out of ink, power goes out, etc. Allow time for such "inconveniences.") You will always be given plenty of time to complete an assignment. If you need more time, you must negotiate with me IN ADVANCE (not on the day it is due). Late work is always penalized and late homework is not accepted except as allowed by the student handbook. Major assingments will be penalized 10 points per day late. You MUST be in your assigned seat when the bell rings or you are tardy. Tardiness will result in detention. When doing group work, I expect you to work together as a team and to use any class time appropriately. Remember that other groups are working: keep your discussions at an appropriate volume. Textbooks and School Materials Textbooks are very expensive and are the property of AHS. Take care of them: use a book cover and DO NOT MARK in the books! (This includes HIGHLIGHTING.) Also, you may receive several handouts, paperbacks, etc. that I expect you to return upon completion of a unit. Though perhaps not professionally bound, they still represent an investment of time and money so you will be charged for replacement should you lose or ruin them. Do not ask to leave my classroom for any reason other than an emergency. Visit the restroom between classes and during lunch. DO NOT expect me to excuse you to use the telephone! Food and drink are not allowed in any classroom at AHS. However, I will allow water in plastic bottles with secured caps (no cups, mugs, glasses, etc. allowed). Your instructor will determine whether or not gum is allowed. If it as allowed it will be on the condition that it is never seen or heard. However, if it is found on desks, the floor, the wall, etc. this allowance will be discontinued. |
