Junior English will require some summer work on your part to better prepare you for the work load you will be facing and to introduce you to some of the types of literature we will be tackling. These assignments must be completed if you plan to enroll in the course.

CP - Read a minimum of FIVE major works of literature from any genre. You should choose onework from each of the genres listed below (1 play, 1 classic novel, 1 contemporary novel).

Keep a reading log on each of the works you have read. (If you are unsure of how to keep a reading log, check the following link http://teacherweb.com/GA/Aquinas/AJLloyd/faq1.stm and look for the FAQ about "reading logs".)

AP -

1) Read or have read at least five (5) of the novels from the lists below: 2 classics, 2 contemp, 1 your choice.

2) Read or have read at least one (1) of the plays listed below.

3) Prepare a short, concise reading personality profile. The works in your profile can be from class or from reading you have done on your own. Instructions:

Your reading profile will help you prepare for the AP exam by allowing you

to recall and document your reading history. Each title you present in your

profile should receive it’s own page. Information that should appear on that

page includes title and author, setting, theme or basic idea, any interesting or

special characters or aspects, and all major symbols.

The titles below represent some of the more influential and fascinating works in all of literature. Each piece is unique, but pay attention for common techniques used by several writers.
