Homework

                      HOMEWORK

MATH - When your child's math homework comes home, we will ALWAYS have gone
over how to do it in class. We will almost always do several like the ones
on your paper on our dry erase boards, and then do 1 on the actual homework
page, so they will know what to do, and so that you can see an example.

Most of the students are doing well on our Math Facts Test on Friday. This
is a timed test. That is the only way to test for mastery. If they have all
the time that they need, and can add on their fingers, they have
not "learned" their math facts. Knowing many of them without thinking will
make the math that they do daily much easier. There will be good payoff for
the effort used in learning these facts. We practice several days a week on
their dry erase boards in class. Remember that any student who misses more
than 2 will need to retake the test.

Our Tests will continue to be on Friday. We will go 1 by 1 through all of
the addition before we start subtraction. Please do some fast drill with
your child. If your child misses more than 2, he/she has not adequately
mastered their math facts. You will receive a note letting you know. Please
have your child prepared to take the test again in a couple of days and do
well.

We will have Phonics homework every night as a general rule. Every 10th
lesson is an Assessment that has no homework side. We will have math
homework each night. It will reinforce what we have done in class that
day. Spelling words and the Reading/Vocabulary words will be on the
website usually by Friday night for the following week. Spelling test and
Vocabulary tests are on Friday each week.

When we are at the end of a Science or Social Studies Unit, your child will
bring their book home to study for the test. I will send a note prior to
that to let you know when the test is, and that the books will be coming
homr.

Working with your child a little each night on their words is the easiest
way for your child to learn them well.

Thanks for all your help at home to make your child successful.
