Hello Wonderful 5^th Grade Parents,

 If you are interested in being part of this committee please let me know.  We are working on several things to make the award ceremony a wonderful success for all our 5^th graders.

Theme:  “Oh the Places We Will Go”

Date: Thursday, May 22^nd, 2008

Time: 9:30 a.m.

Place: Britt David Gym

Decorations: Julie Williams and Jennifer McMickle

The gym will be decorated with banners from the theme that we have used in the past.  If you would like to help in this area please contact Julie Williams at Jwilliams@mcsdga.net.

Food: Kathy Jones and Cindy Applegate

Room representatives will be contacted about bring items to the ceremony.  We are trying to get donations from our local business, so parents may be asked to bring certain types of foods.  If you would like to bring a particular item please let me know ASAP capplegate@mcsdga.net.

Pictures for DVD:  Due no later than April 25^th, 2008

Please send in your child’s pictures from throughout the years at Britt David (K-5).  We do not want any student left out of this very special DVD.  Don’t wait until the last minute, since Julie Williams can work on this as soon as you send in your pictures.

• at least 5 pictures individual
• group pictures of students
• Digital format recommended
• Send no more than 5 pictures by e-mail Jwilliams@mcsdga.net
• Scan pictures/put more than 5 pictures on a CD and send in with your child’s name and teacher
• Do not have a scanner – send in pictures with the child’s name and teacher on back in an envelop

We are looking forward to a wonderful and memorable ceremony for these well deserving children.  Please help us make it possible.

RELAY FOR LIFE:

Please send your loose change with your child or have them earn the money to donate to Relay for Life. Mr. Myles will have to paint his fingernails purple and pink if we raise $1000.00! Thanks for your support!

First Art Works: May 14th 4-6pm

Your child's work will be displayed in the gym like an art exhibit! You can purchase the art work. More to come.

SCIENCE:

Students will begin Physcial Science. We will work on current electricity and electromagnets.

Reading: Vocabulary/Spelling Test on Section 2 words Friday, May 2nd

Students are working on reading the book Where the Red Fern Grows together as a class. I have given them the vocabulary words for the whole book. We are currently working on section 1 words. The test will be on Friday, April 25th. The spelling test will be given separately from the vocabulary test. Students will be given a word bank for the vocabulary test because there are so many words.

We are also working on hyperboles, and the students are working in pairs to make a flip-flap book using hyperboles.

Grammar:

Students will be reviewing grammar concepts until Spring Break, and we will have tests on these review standards.

Writing:

Students are writing a story using hyperbole.

Exp. Lab:

Students are currently working on computer activities for the book "Where the Red Fern Grows".
