Summer Reading
Dear Students,

Welcome to fifth grade! As you know, I will be your teacher next year. I am
very excited to be your teacher and I know that it is going to be a
wonderful year filled with challenging and fun experiences. In language
arts, we will be exploring different types of literature, poetry, and
developing our writing and publishing skills. In science we will be doing a
lot of great experiments and projects. In social studies, you will be
learning amazing new things about our country and you will be completing a
social science fair project. In math, we will have fun playing games and we
will continue to broaden our math skills. I also look forward to teaching
you some new games in PE. It will be a great year in 5th grade.

Organization is a very important factor in being successful in 5th grade.
Each student will receive an assignment planner that will be used everyday
to write down assignments and other important information. Please see the
supply list page for school supplies needed to be prepared for each class.
Please take the time this summer to explore the Internet. On our school
website you will find great information about our school. During the summer
the library will be open from 9:00-12:30 for the month of June. Your goal
this summer is to get 5 A.R. points.

You must make an 80% on each AR test for it to count toward Millionaire.
Please keep a reading log of all the other things besides AR that you read
over the summer. I have attached a reading log that you can use and turn in
to me the first week of school. I also want you to practice your
multiplication facts over the summer. You must know them before entering 5th
grade. I look forward to spending the year learning new things with you and
have a very happy and safe summer.

Thanks,
Mrs. Applegate
