 Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
  1. What happens and what do I do if my child does not turn in homework?
  2. What do I do if my child is ready to take an AR test early?
  3. What do I do if I want to conference with the teacher?

What happens and what do I do if my child does not turn in homework?

Your child is required to complete and turn in homework the following
school day and/or at the scheduled time. If homework is not turned in on
time, expect your child to sign the conduct book with a loss of 2 conduct
points and a deduction of 10 points off the homework assignment for each day
past the due date. If the homework is past two days late, your child will
complete a homework Action Plan requiring a signature from the parent to be
turned in the following day along with the late homework. A grade
of no more than 70% will be given for late homework. Too many late
assignments may result in no makeup work. A grade of zero may be given at the
teacher's discretion.

What do I do if my child is ready to take an AR test early?

Making 100% on the AR tests is the grade desired at Britt David Magnet
Academy. Results show that a child who reads grade level chapter books or
trade books for at least two days, or reads a short story 3 times is more
likely to make 85% or higher on an AR test. I recommend that the student
read to themself and then to an adult, preferrably a parent before taking an
AR test. If you feel that your child is ready for an AR test before the
recommended time, and can expect a grade of 85% or higher, then please write
a note indicating your request. You will be informed if your child was not
successful on an AR test and a parent signature will be requested. A
conference my be needed if your child is not achieving 85% or higher.

What do I do if I want to conference with the teacher?

Please feel free to contact me via email, telephone or written note to set
up a time to conference. Please allow me to schedule a day and time that is
convenient for both of us. Also, please indicate the nature of the
conference so that I can gather materials and other information to
discuss. I prefer after school conference times, but I can schedule
morning if that is the only time convenient for you. If a phone conference
is more convenient, please let me know the best time or times to call.
Thank you
