Reading

Accelerated Reader (AR)

To access your child's AR score from your home, please go to the URL address - https://hosted50.renlearn.com/58131

At least 14 AR points are required before the end of each nine week period. A good marker to use is to have at least 2 points or more by the end of each week. Progress reports will be your reminder that you are at the half way point. This is required by all fifth grade students, and each student is responsible for keeping up with the number of books read and tests taken. AR readings along with other readings on thier grade level should be documented in their Reading Log. Each student should make an 85% or higher on each AR test taken. Any AR test of 70% or lower will be reported to you via AR report. Students who recieve excessive tests scores of less than 85% will also be reported to you and will need your attention.

Millionaire Log
Read at least 30 mins or 20 pages each day. Document this type of reading in your Millionaire Reading Log. 25 books are required to reach Millioniare status. You can do it!!

Each student is required to read 25 books to reach "Millioniare Club" status. As your child reads, document the time spent each day in thier Reading Log. When a total of 4 hours have been spent reading, indicate that time by drawing a line under that section to block that time. You will be able to manage the number of books read by using this method. Reading helps in strengthening comprehesion skills and increases a child's vocabulary. Ask your child questions throughout the story to aide in thier understanding of the various events of the various stories that they are reading. It should be clear as to what events happened at the beginning, middle, and end of each story. When your child reaches "Millionaire" status, please send in their photo to be placed on the Wall of Frames.

Weekly Reading Comprehension Tests

Weekly reading tests will be given on Friday of each week. The stories will be read from our reading series. Comprehension and other reading strategies will be the focus from each story studied each week.
