Your spelling/ vocabulary assignment, due by Friday, is the following:

-Write words in print three times each in alphabetical order
-Write the definition from the dictionary in a complete sentence in cursive
-Write 3 synonyms from the thesaurus in cursive
-Write the word in a sentence in cursive

Labeling: These should be completed as four separate assignments. It is fine
to use the back of your paper once the front is complete, but it needs to be
clearly separated by assignment. All papers should be labeled with their
classroom number in the upper right corner and circled. On the top line left
aligned should be their first and last name with the date on the line below
written out (ex: August 15, 2008). On the top line right aligned should be
the name of the subject (Spell/ Vocab) and underneath the specific
assignment (Definitions, Thesaurus, 3 x's ABC, or Words in a Sentence).
These are the guidelines for all assignments completed on notebook paper
inside and outside of the classroon. For handouts, they should write their
name, abbreviated date (ex: 8-15-08), and their number circled on the top
right corner.

HW Passes: The HW pass must be attached (tape, staple, or paperclip) to a
sheet of NB paper with the correct labeling for the assignment. I will
collect the HW pass and write "HW Pass" on the paper and return in weekly
folder. Stevie B's receipts work in the same manner as a pass for one of the
four assignments.

Every Friday:

Remember to study for your spelling/ vocabulary test! I will call each word
for you to spell. Then, I will change the order and call out definitions to
words. You will have to identify the word based on the definition I call
out. All definitions are taken from the children's dictionary from our
classroom. We do not have enough for everyone, but students are allowed to
check them out for one night at a time. Everyone is offered the opportunity
to use them at least one night each week. Please take advantage!

Don't forget! Reading logs are due every Friday. You must read 100 minutes
for full credit. Record the number of pages for Millionaire and be sure to
have a parent sign it each night. Parents, make sure to sign for all pages.
If you only sign the first two nights and not the second two, they cannot be
counted. It is fine to just sign once as long as it is clear you are signing
for each line on the log. Also, 100 minutes is the requirement for the week,
but I do tell them to read 25 minutes per night. It is fine to read all of
the minutes on the weekend prior or the first half of the week as long as
they are all submitted on Friday. I just remind them to read 25 minutes per
night to break it down for students who are less enthusiastic about reading
or are in need of help time managing.
