AR NEWS
Please be aware that your child must earn 18 AR points during the 9 weeks (5th grade policy)
grading period. I recommend that students pace themselves so they do not get in a crunch at the
end of the 9 weeks.
A good goal to set would be 9 points at progress report time. If the teachers
do not feel that adequate progress is being made during the 9 week period,
students may be required to read part of the time of their block period.
This policy is designed to help the child meet the requirements of earning 18
points.
If a child does not reach the required number of points, he /she
will read during p.e. / and or an exploratory time (art, counselor)
until 5 points is earned.
REMEMBER: All AR reading must be done within the appropriate ZPD.
Ample classroom guidance is given to ensure that each child meets
the minimum requirements. Guided AR reading will be done in reading
with Mrs. Applegate.
