TIPS FOR PARENTS:
- Help set up an organized place and time for homework.
- Help your child establish either a consitent schedule for completing
homework.
- Encourage, motivate, and prompt your child, but do not sit with him/her
and do the homework for him/her. The purpose of the homework is for
your child to practice and use what he/she has learned. If your child
is consistently not able to do the homwork alone, please contact the
teacher.
- In fifth grade, your child should not be spending more than 50 minutes
on homework. If this is not the case, please contact your teacher.
- If time is spent wisely, many nights your child may have very little
homework.
- A child should spend approximately 60 minutes per week reading. Take some
time to read to your child or have them read to you. It will be time well
spent.
Homework is posted on my board and Mrs. Applegate's board each day. It is
the responsibility of the student to write it down in his/her planner.
Please check your child's planner each night to ensure it is being used.
This is the best way to help your child at home.
Homework that is given by either teacher, will be considered to be of value.
It will be given to reinforce skills taught at school. We will make great
effort not to give tests on the same day or give an excessive amount.
Late Work Due To Absences:
Late work due to an excused absence can be made up within 3 days without
penalty. After 3 days, make-up work cannot be turned in. It is the
responsibility of the student to get all assignments that he/she has missed
while absent. Make-up work due to unexcused absences is at the discretion
of the teacher. Missing work due to being suspended cannot be made up.
