12th graders should
 
In the FALL
1. Review graduation requirements and your transcript with your high school counselor.
 
2. Update your High School Planner on GAcollege411.
 
3. Take the SAT, ACT, ASSET, and/or Compass depending on your school of interest.
 
4. Using "My Calendar" on GAcollege411, mark college admissions, financial aid, and scholarship application deadlines.
 
5. Ask your counselor about scholarship opportunities.  Find additional scholarship and financial aid information in "Paying for College" on GAcollege411.
 
6. Write college admissions and scholarship essays.
 
7. Complete and submit college applications and transcripts.  If you have a definite first choice, consider applying early.
 
8. Print your "Planner Summary" and give it to your teachers/counselor when you request letters of recommendations.
 
9. Contact financial aid offices in the colleges of your choice to apply for school specific scholarships and additional financial aid forms.
 
10. If you are an athlete, send transcripts to NCAA for eligibility purposes.
 
11. Remind your parents you will need current tax information in January for financial aid applications.
 
12. Apply for a U.S. Department of Education PIN for FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
 
In the SPRING
 
1. Complete and submit the FAFSA online by February 15.
 
2. Compare acceptance letters, financial aid, and scholarship offers.
 
3. Make your decision by May 1st as to which college you will attend.
 
4. Request that your high school send your final transcript to your chosen college.
 
5. Submit fees for tuition, room, and board.
 
6. REMEMBER - please bring your college acceptance letter to Ms. Cook so it can be filed in your permanent records and so we can help you celebrate your achievements.
