A. How to Pass Any Class
1. No more than 5 Absences
The easiest way to pass ALL of your classes is simple… make sure you’re in
the class!! Missing school causes you to get behind in your schoolwork and
before long, it becomes very difficult to understand what’s going on and too
hard to catch up on all that missed work. Don’t let this happen.

2. No 0’s
When you receive a “0” on an assignment, you have to earn two A’s and one B
just to get back to passing. 0’s really hurt your grade in a class. Even
failing an assignment with a 50 is better than nothing at all…when a 50 is
averaged with just one A on an equivalent assignment, you’ll be passing
again.
Remember… NEVER EARN A “0” !!
3. Organize and Prioritize
Not everyone has to use the same system, but you definitely need your own
system for organizing and prioritizing schoolwork. This might mean writing
down assignments in your agenda or keeping a notebook where you put
everything that’s important from your classes. Any way that works is all you
need, but if you want to pass your classes, you have to organize and
prioritize!!
4. The SLANT Method
S- Sit up in your desk (and definitely don’t sleep!)
L- Listen to the teacher
A- Ask questions if you need help or want tips from
the teacher on HOW TO STUDY
N- Nod your head at the teacher when they are
talking…it lets them know you are listening.
T- Track the teacher with your eyes as he/she
walks around the room
Just Remember… “28 to Graduate”
You have to pass at least 28 classes and all 5 sections of the Graduation
Test during your 4 years to earn a high school diploma. Ask anyone in the
Guidance Department (Ms. Cook or Ms. Veliz) for more details. You can
come by during lunch or break…or anytime with a note from your teacher.
B. Seven Test Taking Tips:
1. Use slow breathing to relax.
2. If you begin to get too anxious, repeat slow breathing and picture
your "Safe Place" for a moment to break the stress cycle.
3. Focus on your test taking strategy.
4. Look over the entire test to determine how long it is and where the most
points are. Determine a time limit for each section.
5. If you use acronyms, or other memory aids, write them down on a scratch
piece of paper.
6. Answer the easy questions first. Often these questions will have clues to
harder questions.
7. Go back to the harder questions. Look for clues. Eliminate any obvious
wrong answers. If you are still not sure of the correct answer, take your
best educated guess.
8. Budget your time so that you have a few mintes left at the end to check
your answers. Make sure you do not leave any blank.
