January 5, 2009

Happy New Year!  I hope you enjoyed your holiday season.

Thank you for your contributions for the gift card I received at Dessert Theater.  I have already used it and am enjoying my purchase!

Our trip to the Georgia Aquarium and our Dessert Theater were huge successes, thanks to the efforts of our Cheatham Hill families.  Dessert Theater was set up and cleaned up in record time!  A big thank you to everyone who chaperoned, set up and/or cleaned up!

After Dessert Theater, a bracelet was found.  If it is yours, I have it in the music room.  It is made up of stones/beads on wire that wraps around a wrist three or four times.

We will begin our preparation for our participation in festival.  Of course, we did not have rehearsal yesterday (teacher work day).  We will resume chorus on Monday next week.  Please note that the following Monday (1/18) there is no school because of MLK Day.  We will have rehearsal the next day - Tuesday, 1/19 2:30-3:30.

The last week in January is Conference Week.  We will have chorus that week, but it will be held 12:30-1:30.

Our Cluster Concert will be held Wednesday, February 3rd at Hillgrove High School during the school day.  We will perform our festival pieces (although they will not be perfected) for the chorus students at Still, Dowell, and Kemp, as well as hear the Lovinggood 6th Grade Chorus perform and some of the choruses from Hillgrove.  The other music teachers will offer comments so we can perfect our music before participating in festival in mid-February.

We have not yet been given our festival date.  As soon as that information arrives, I will send it to you.  It will also be held during the school day.  Following our festival performance, we will have lunch at either Stevi B's or Ci Ci's Pizza.

WE HAVE HEARD FROM THE BRAVES!  This is very exciting!!!!  We will be singing the National Anthem for the Atlanta Braves at the 7:00 PM game on Monday evening, May 17th.  This is the last week of school.  It is also the day of the fifth grade party, so it will be quite a day!  For your planning purposes, chorus members will be transported to Turner Field by their families and will need to be there by 6:00 PM.

IMPORTANT!!!!!!  All participating chorus members and their families will need to sit in our block of seats so you will need to purchase your tickets from THE CHEATHAM HILL BLOCK OF TICKETS, even if you have other tickets.  PLEASE plan to purchase your tickets from the school.  Ticket order information will be sent home shortly, as they would like for us to purchase our tickets by March 1st.

December 3, 2009

Tomorrow is our Georgia Aquarium performance.  We will leave as soon as the busses arrive, hopefully as close to 9:15 as possible.  Please remember that parents may meet us there or follow the busses from the school to the Aquarium.  The busses will drop us off, then proceed to the parking on Ivan Allen at the World Congress Center.  I am not familiar with the parking situation there, but I believe when my family went, we were able to park closer to the Aquarium.  Be prepared to pay for parking, as I don't know what you will find when you get there.

The Aquarium opens at 10:00.  We hope to arrive as close to the opening as possible with the bus situation.  Unless I hear differently today from my contact at the Aquarium, we will gather at the ticketing area.  If you have prepaid through the school, I will be paying for your ticket when we arrive.  If you have not prepaid, you can go through the ticket line and get your ticket.

Each student is assigned to a chaperone group based on their performance situation.  Some students are playing in the recorder ensemble, some are singing, and some are doing both.  The chaperones will be responsible for getting their group to the performance area at the designated time.  If you are planning to go to the Aquarium but are not a designated chaperone, we ask that you leave your child with their group.  You are welcome to tour the Aquarium with your child's group, but please remember that your child's chaperone will have instructions for the day for your child.

Some parents may choose to stay longer at the Aquarium.  If you are planning to do this and would like for your child to stay with you and not return to the school, you must sign them out at the Aquarium.  A Cheatham Hill staff member will have sign out sheets for you to do this.

All students must have a sack lunch for the trip.  Please ask your child if they signed up for a lunch.  If your child has pre-ordered their lunch from the school, they will pick it up before we leave.  If not, they need to bring a sack lunch from home.  We have asked all the students to make sure their name is on their lunch (and drink, if it needs to be placed in a cooler).  EVERYTHING THEY BRING FOR LUNCH MUST BE DISPOSABLE!  Please leave the lunch boxes, thermos bottles, flatware (unless disposable), etc. at home.

Students need to wear their navy/white formal performance outfit to school (see note above about Formal Performance Outfit).  After they check in with their homeroom teacher, they will go to Ms. Lucas or Mrs. Gordon's room for their bow tie.  We would like for the students to wear a santa hat, elf hat, reindeer antlers, etc.  If you have one at home, please make sure your child brings it to wear.  Be SURE your child's name is in it.  I have a few santa hats and some antlers at school.

We have spoken with the students about appropriate behavior while at the Aquarium, reminding them that they represent themselves, their families, Cheatham Hill, and Cobb County while they are there.  A reminder from you would also be helpful - thanks!

The Recorder Ensemble will perform at 11:30 and the Chorus will sing at 12:00.  The last song for the Recorder Ensemble and the first song for the chorus will be performed by both groups, so there will be a brief overlap.

Our estimated time of departure from the Aquarium will be 1:00 so we can return in time for dismissal.

Dessert Theater is Tuesday evening next week (12/8).  At this exact moment (subject to change at any moment) I have one table left for reservation.

Dessert Theater will begin at 7:00 PM.  The doors will open at 6:30 PM for families to fill their plates with delicious desserts and settle in for an enjoyable evening of holiday entertainment!  Please note:  chorus and recorder ensemble members should NOT take desserts before the performance.  They will be given an opportunity to hit the dessert table immediately following the performance.

Each family is asked to provide a finger dessert for the table.  Desserts should be brought to school Tuesday morning and put on the stage.  If you use a plate or container that needs to be returned to you, please make sure you have it marked with your name.  Any that are not picked up at the end of Dessert Theater will be available for you to pick up in the music room on Wednesday.

We will be decorating for Dessert Theater beginning at 2:15 on Tuesday.  Many hands make light work!  If you can assist with decorating, please send me an e-mail.

For decorating, we will need pine, holly, magnolia, etc. clippings.  If you can provide these, please put them in a garbage bag and have your child put them on the stage Tuesday morning.

Immediately following Dessert Theater, we will need everyone to assist with clean-up.  This can be done very quickly if everyone helps.

We also need 2-4 volunteers to take table cloths home to wash.  If you can volunteer for this, please send me an e-mail.

For Dessert Theater, please have your child wear their formal performance outfit.

On Wednesday, December 9th at 8:30 AM we will be presenting the chorus and recorder ensemble to the school in an assembly.  Performers should wear jeans and their chorus T-shirt.

I THINK I have remembered everything; if not, I will follow up with an additional newsflash.  Please e-mail me if there is something I have not included.

As always, thank you for your support of music education for your child!

Please remember that auditions for solo and small group acts for Dessert Theater will be held this week on Thursday at 2:30 in the lunchroom.  Students attending ASP will be dismissed to ASP as soon as their audition is done.  Art club students will be dismissed to art club.  All other students will need to be picked up immediately following the audition. Please plan to pick up your child in the carpool lane.

September 25, 2009

"Third time's a charm!"  Have you heard that saying before?  I hope it holds true for the chorus.  We will try for a third time to have our first chorus rehearsal!  Please remember that chorus will meet after school on Monday (9/28) until 3:30.  Be sure to have this discussion with your child so they know that you know they will be staying after school on Monday.

Reminder to girls:  I STRONGLY suggest you get your navy skirt NOW!  See instructions above and special note below (9/17).

Have a glorious weekend!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
September 21, 2009
Due to the weather, the county is sending middle school students home at 1:15 and has cancelled all after school activities, which includes chorus.  Therefore, chorus will NOT be meeting today.
Please note that ASP WILL continue to meet.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
September 17, 2009

Chorus will begin on Monday!  We are 87 strong!  We have a trip planned for December that I will share with the students at chorus on Monday.  It is very exciting!!!

Please make sure your child knows that you are aware that they will be going to chorus after school.  If you have not had that conversation with them, often, students don't know that you know and are concerned about staying on that first day.  Thank you!

Please remember to pick up your child in the carpool area at 3:30.  For the safety of everyone, no child will be allowed to cross the parking lot without being accompanied by their parent.  When picking up in the carpool line, please pull all the way up to the first station.  This way we can have more students loading at the same time and will make carpool go much quicker.  Carpool will last until 3:40.  After that time you will need to pick your child up at ASP (fees required).

Students going to ASP will be dismissed to ASP after chorus to check, get their snack, and join the 5th grade group.

Chorus payments are due on Monday, September 21st.

Special notice to girls:  NOW is the time to look for the navy skirt for chorus.  A navy school uniform skirt is perfect for chorus.  Many stores are are closing out their school uniforms at this time of year.  First, you can probably find one on sale.  Second, they will be difficult to find when we need them in December.

Thank you for your support of your child's music education!

September 13, 2009

We have over 80 fifth graders in chorus this year - WOW!

I have entered all the e-mail addresses given to me on the chorus registration forms.  I will send this out as a NewsFlash message.  If there is a problem with an e-mail address, it should bounce back to me.

Please remember that chorus will begin NEXT week, September 21st.

Some chorus registration forms are incomplete.  If your child brings their form home, please complete the highlighted portion and have your child return it to the box outside the music room ASAP.  Thank you!

Chorus, originally scheduled to begin Monday, 9/14, will begin Monday, 9/21.  Today I visited each homeroom to share this message, as well as having it announced during the afternoon announcements.

Thank you to everyone who auditioned for District Honor Chorus!  We had 29 students audition.  As always, it is a difficult choice to make because we have so many talented singers at Cheatham Hill.

Congratulations to:  Lindsey C., Sean E.,  Matthew G., Emily H., Daniel L., Bryson P., Abby P., and A. Salmon who will represent Cheatham Hill at the 2009 District Honor Chorus on Thursday, October 22nd!

Chorus Registration forms went home today and are due Friday, September 4th.  Please note the information attached to the packet about District Honor Chorus.  This is an optional opportunity available to eight Cheatham Hill students.  These students will be selected based on an audition on Friday morning, September 4th.  To audition, students must have a signed permission slip at the audition.

If you need an additional copy of the chorus registration information, registration form, or District Honor Chorus information and permission slip, they are available for download by clicking on the "Forms and other documents to download" link on this website.

I hope everyone is beginning to enjoy their summer!

We had a GREAT time at Turner Field last week.    I was very proud of the chorus' performance.  Everyone seemed to have a wonderful time in the stands during the game.  And the Braves also won!

By my count, in addition to being on the jumbotron during our performance, Cheatham Hill students were on the jumbotron at least four times during the game - what fun!

Many thanks to Kris Wooten and her photography talents!  She popped up everywhere to take pictures of the chorus and has some AWESOME pictures.  You will want to see them!  She has put them on shutterfly.  You can view them separately or as a slideshow and even order some through Target!  Thanks, again, Kris!!!

As our performance date comes close, should you find yourself with an extra ticket, please let me know. I have already had a request for one ticket in our block. I can not guarantee a ticket for someone in need nor a buyer for an extra ticket, but I certainly can let you know of the potential.

It's a good thing we are not performing this weekend with this weather - hope for a sun shine day on Friday!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
May 14, 2009
I have sent the Braves tickets home today with your child. Some students were absent or left school early so I still have their tickets. Please ask your child for the tickets as soon as you see them so they don't get lost!
You will also find a pink paper in the envelope with instructions for the evening. I have copied the text of the note below:
Chorus members will meet at the bottom of the Hank Aaron Drive ramp on the Field Level concourse at 6:00 pm the day of the game. (approx. section 129). While you can get to this area from any entrance, the most direct entrance is the side gate along Hank Aaron Drive. When looking at the stadium, walk to the sidewalk that goes along the OUTSIDE of the stadium on the left. About halfway down the block is the entrance gate. After going through the turnstiles, turn left and walk up a short set of steps. We will be meeting at the top of the steps.
Each chorus member will need to have their ticket in their pants pocket when arriving at our meeting place. The parent/supervising adult must bring the chorus member to this location, check them in with the Cheatham Hill staff, then proceed to their seat in the stadium. As per the Braves organization, no parents are permitted on the field with the chorus. Immediately following our performance, chorus members will be lead to our seating blocks, where parents (or the designated adult) will assume responsibility for the chorus members for the remainder of the time. Please stay in your seating section when waiting for the chorus members to arrive.
Chorus members will wear their Chorus T-shirts with nice blue jeans pants, capris, or long shorts with a belt, and sneakers.
In the past, the Braves organization has allowed parents in sections close to the field for the purpose of taking pictures and videos. I cannot guarantee this will be the case this year, but I want to make parents aware so they can ask about it when they arrive.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

May 6, 2009

Just to keep you up to date - I have received four inquiries about the tickets for the Braves game on May 22nd. I am awaiting final meeting information for game night to include in the letter with your tickets. When I get that, I will put it in the ticket envelope and send the tickets home with your child. I will also send out a news flash message through this website so you will know to ask your child for the tickets or search the book bag!

I hope to have the tickets sent home by Friday. If not, I will not send them home until Wednesday next week because of the Fifth Grade Field Trip.

It is hard to believe we are down to 12 more school days. I again want to thank you for sharing your child with me. Although the county does not pay me to have a chorus, I am paid with their efforts and successes. I would like to also thank Laurie Prescott, our accompanist, Christan Lucas, Lynn Gordon, and Ashley Payne, our rehearsal assistants for volunteering their time and talents!

I will especially miss this group. They have been a joy!!!

April 14, 2009

Reminder - Our Turner Field Tour is THIS Friday (4/17). Chorus members should wear their Chorus T-shirts with jeans and comfortable shoes, as we will be walking a lot! We will leave at 9:30. Parents who are going on the trip with us should plan to be at school by 9:15. Everyone will need a sack lunch. Please leave lunch bags, refillable water bottles, containers, etc. at home as EVERYTHING in the lunch sack needs to be disposable. I MUST know if a student needs a sack lunch from school by TOMORROW.

Today your child was given an envelope for payment for a chorus picture. If you are interested in purchasing the chorus picture, the cost is $15 (checks made out to School Pictures of Georgia). Please have your child bring the picture payment to me in the music room.

We will be picking up the Braves tickets when we are at Turner Field on Friday. We will distribute them sometime next week.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
March 29, 2009
Reminder - Braves ticket orders are due by Friday, April 3rd (THIS Friday). If you need another ticket order form, you can download one on the "Forms and Other Documents to Download" link on this website. Please see the previous post (below) for the ticket guidelines.
Also, if you are planning on going with us to tour Turner Field on April 17th, your $7 payment is due by Wednesday, April 1st (THIS Wednesday). Additional information can be found in previous post (below).
March 6, 2009
Festival went extremely well! I was VERY PROUD of the work your children did preparing for and performing at festival. The chorus received straight superior ratings - the highest possible score!  We had a great time at Ci Ci's Pizza, as well. When we returned, I ordered medals for each chorus member as well as the plaque that will hang in the hallway. Thank you to each parent who attended the trip with us. We couldn't have done it without you!
We will no longer be meeting after school on Mondays for chorus. Before performing for the Braves, we will meet in the music room some mornings in preparation.
Cheatham HIll picture day is Tuesday, March 10th (next week). Each year we have a formal chorus picture taken that will hang in the hallway for years to come! It is also available for purchase.  I have not been given the pricing information; however, it will be the same cost as a class picture.  If you are interested in purchasing a chorus picture, please have your child bring in payment (cash or check made out the same way you would for class and individual pictures) and give it to Mrs. Grayburn. PLEASE be sure to send a separate payment for this picture as the payment needs tocome to me, not your child's homeroom teacher.
For this picture, we will wear our formal chorus outfits (white/navy). I don't know yet when the picture will be taken, so please have your child dress for their regular picture and bring their chorus outfit.
This will be the last time they will wear their formal chorus outfit. We are in need of white shirts, navy pants, and dark shoes of varying sizes for the chorus closet. If you will no longer need these items, we will happily accept them as a donation!
Today your child will be given the order form for Braves tickets for the game for which we are singing - Friday, May 22nd. Ticket orders are due by Friday, April 3rd. I want to be very clear about the following information so PLEASE read it carefully:
*Chorus members DO need to purchase a ticket.
*Each chorus member MUST have a supervising adult in order to participate (preferably their parent) that must attend the game, as well.
*ALL chorus members and their supervising adult MUST purchase their tickets from the school in our block of tickets.
*Families and friends are strongly encouraged to purchase tickets in our block of tickets, as well.
*Two types of tickets are available for purchase - Upper Box ($16/ticket) and Golden Moon Pavilion ($32/ticket) to offer choices to our Cheatham Hill families.
Please check with your child for the ticket order form. If you need another form, please download one from the "Forms and Other Documents to Download" link on this webpage. Additional forms are NOT available at school.
Order forms go in the BOX ON THE MUSIC ROOM DOOR. Payments go in the payment envelope, marked "Braves Tickets" and should be placed in the drop safe.
In preparation for our performance at Turner Field, we will tour Turner Field on Friday, April 17th. We will leave school at 9:45 and should return about 1:45. All chorus members, even if they are unable to perform on May 22nd will attend this field trip. It is a fun tour and helps us to know our surroundings prior to performance day, as well as gives us the opportunity to rehearse in the stadium. Our tour will end in the dugout. At that time, we will assemble on the dirt track and practice singing the National Anthem. The cost of this trip for chorus members is covered in your chorus fees. Parents are welcome to attend. The cost of the tour is $12 if you pay on site. If you pay in advance, the cost will be $7 for
the tour. If you would like to participate, please an e-mail to me and place your payment in a payment envelope marked "Turner Field Tour" no later than Wednesday, April 1st. We MUST make our payment to Turner Field before leaving for Spring Break. If you decide to attend after April 1st you will need to pay your admission at the stadium.
Chorus members should wear their Chorus T-shirts with jeans for the field trip. They will also need a sack lunch. I will ask you child before April 3rd if they need a school lunch. If they do not order one they will need to bring a sack lunch from home. Everything in the lunch bag MUST be disposable.  Unfortunately, there are no concession stands open during the tour so everyone needs to plan for a sack lunch from home or from school.
We hope several parents will be able to attend this trip. Each year, many moms AND dads attend.
February 26, 2009
Dismissal Plan forms for after festival were due today. I visited each homeroom today to speak with any student who has yet to turn in a form. If your child has lost their form, please download another from the "Documents and Other Forms to Download" link on this webpage. I MUST have a completed form by TOMORROW (Friday).
Monday is our last Monday chorus rehearsal for the year. IT IS A CRITICAL REHEARSAL! Our festival performance is Tuesday morning. All chorus members should arrive at school dressed in their formal chorus outfits. Chorus members who ride the bus should report to homeroom for attendance, then get ready for the trip. Chorus members who do not ride the bus should be at school by 7:30 AM.
We will begin singing for rehearsal right at the 7:50 bell, board the bus at 8:10, and leave at 8:15.  Parents going on the trip should arrive at school at 7:30, if possible, to assist with the bow ties.
We will be traveling to Armuchee High School in Armuchee, Georgia on charter busses. Our warm-up time is 10:20 with our performance time being 10:40. We will also hear other groups perform. On our way home we will stop for lunch at CiCi's Pizza in Acworth on Rt. 41.
We should be back at school by 2:15. The dismissal forms you have completed will tell us how your child is going home that day. ASP students will be dismissed to ASP when we return. Students not picked up by 2:25 will be taken to ASP.
Braves ticket order forms are ready to be sent home. They will be sent home after festival.
February 12, 2009
We had a very successful performance last week at our Cluster Concert. This was a valuable experience as it gave us a performance opportunity before going to festival, allowed other music specialists to give us feedback on our performance so we can continue to polish our pieces, give the students the opportunity to hear other elementary school choruses, and get to hear the middle school and high school perform to see what opportunities they have when they get to these schools. Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend!
Chorus was originally scheduled for Tuesday next week, due to no school on Monday. However, they are doing so well, we will not have chorus on Tuesday next week.
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT OUR NEXT TWO REHEARSALS (February 23rd and March 2nd)
ARE CRITICAL REHEARSALS.
March 2nd will be our last Monday rehearsal for the year. We will gather in May in the mornings to practice for the National Anthem for the Atlanta Braves.
Our festival performance will be Tuesday, March 3rd at Armuchee High School in Armuchee, GA (just north of Rome). We will leave at 8:15 (if you are a car rider, please be at school by 7:30 to get ready to leave) on a charter bus and return about 2:15. Please note this is an Early Release Day so you will need to pick up your child or plan to send them to ASP. We will stop for lunch on the way home at Ci-Ci's on Rt. 41 in Acworth. We will be wearing our formal chorus outfits for this trip.
When we are at festival, we will perform two pieces for three judges who will score us in seven categories. Each judge will give us an overall score, which will used to calculate our final score.  If you would like to see the judge sheets from last year, please go to the "Forms and Other Documents to Download" link on this site.
We still have some seats on the busses for GROUPIES! If you would like to "ride in style" with us to festival, please e-mail me and I will add your name to the list. The only cost will be lunch at Ci-Ci's.
After festival I will be sending home information about the Braves game, including ticket information.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

February 4, 2009

Reminder - Tomorrow (Thursday) is our Cluster Concert at Hillgrove High School. Chorus members should wear their chorus T-shirt, blue jeans, belt, and sneakers to school. I know it is very cold, but please don't wear a visible shirt under your chorus shirt. You can wear a sweat shirt, etc. over the chorus shirt until it is time to perform, if needed. If you did not sign up for a sack lunch from school remember to bring a sack lunch from home. EVERYTHING must be disposable!

We are leaving school at 10:45 and should return 1:00ish. We will begin the performances about 11:00 and hope to see many of you there! Our songs are still works in progress as we still have several weeks before festival.

We have our official festival date and time. We are traveling to Armuchee, Georgia (just north of Rome) on Tuesday, March 3rd. Because it is an early release day, we will not be able to take school buses but will travel on coach busses (yea!). We will return to school about 2:15 after stopping on our way home to have lunch at either CiCi's or Stevi-B's on Cobb Parkway in Acworth. Chorus members will need to be picked up either at 2:15 or can be checked into ASP. We will be sending home a form for you to tell usyour plan for that day.

WE LOVE OUR GROUPIES!!! We will have several open seats on the busses for festival and would like to invite parents to join us for the trip. Seats will be given out first come, first served. If you would like to join us, please e-mail me to let me know. The only cost for the day will be your lunch.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I HAVE to brag about your children! As you know, we are preparing to go to festival. Due to a series of unfortunate events, we will not be participating in festival in Cobb County the third week in February (we knew this since August so this is NOT a change from the information you have been receiving) but rather at the end of March. Because we have so much time to prepare our two pieces of music I have made my selections more difficult than I otherwise would have because of the time we have for preparation.
At yesterday's chorus rehearsal we started a difficult piece of music. I thought my goal of learning the first section was lofty enough - WRONG!! We actually learned the whole song!!! We still have lots to do with it to make it ready for festival, but I was overwhelmed by their progress!!! WOW!!!
Just thought I would share with you how wonderful your children are! Thank you for sharing them with me!!! Have a GREAT day!
GREAT NEWS!!! We will be singing the National Anthem for the Atlanta Braves on Friday night, May 22nd! This is the night of the last day of school. How EXCITING!!!
Information about tickets will be coming home in the near future.
We will begin working on our festival songs on Monday. We have not yet received our performance date but we know it will be at the end of March.
Our Cluster Concert, with Still, Dowell, Kemp, Lovinggood, and Hillgrove will be Thursday, February 5th at 11:00 at Hillgrove. We hope to see many, many parents, grandparents, and other family and friends there.
There are several dishes, trays, and platters that were left at Dessert Theater. Several are holiday related. You may want them for your holiday entertaining! They have been washed and are on the white shelves in the music room. Please feel free to come get them anytime!!!
AWESOME job at Dessert Theater!!! Thank you to everyone who helped. We couldn't have done it without you!
We have one more performance this week. We will sing on Friday at 8:15 and 9:15 for the school.  Chorus members should wear their informal chorus outfits (T-shirt/jeans) to school.
My original plan was to have chorus rehearsal this week at our regular time, but I have decided excellent work is deserving of reward. We will take the day off - NO CHORUS THIS WEEK!
Please remember that we will begin preparing for festival when we return in January. There is no school for students the week we return on Monday, so we will meet on Tuesday instead (1/6), same time.
I have submitted our request for singing for the Braves and should be hearing from them very soon. I will share this information when I hear from them.
Have a wonderful break! Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy New Year, and Happy
Celebration for anything else you may celebrate! I will see you "next year."
IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO TURN IN A PICTURE FOR THE POWERPOINT PRESENTATION OF A
LOVED ONE YOU WILL BE MISSING THIS CHRISTMAS. This person can be someone who is
far away or someone who is no longer with us. I would like the pictures by Wednesday (12/10).  Thank you!!!
This is a very busy week for the chorus! We have our Road Trip during the school day on Wednesday
and our Dessert Theater on Thursday evening.
Our Road Trip will begin at 9:15. We will head first to McEachern United Methodist Church Pre-School for a 10:00 performance, followed by an 11:15 performance at First Presbyterian Church of Marietta Pre-School. We will have a pizza lunch there, as well. Chorus members should wear their formal performance outfit (see above) to school.
Parents are welcome to be our "groupies." We would love to have you at one or both performances during our Road Trip!
Dessert Theater...I will list the details below to make sure you see everything
1. Each family is asked to provide a dessert for the dessert buffet table. Finger desserts are best. If your dessert requires individual bowls or spoons, please provide them. Not knowing what someone
might bring we don't want to purchase unnecessary items.
2. Desserts should be brought to school Thursday morning and placed on the stage. If your dessert needs to be refrigerated please let us know so we can put it in the school frig until serving.
3. Decorating will begin at 2:00 in the lunchroom on Thursday, MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK!
4. Chorus members should wear their formal performance outfit (see above).
5. Chorus members should report to the gym at 6:30. If they are also in Recorder Ensemble, they will need to report to the Music Room at 6:15.
6. Doors open for Dessert Theater at 6:30. At that time, come in, fix a place, and settle in for afestive evening!
7. Entertainment will begin at 6:40 with the formal program beginning at 7:00.
8. At the end of Dessert Theater we ask that all families participate in clean-up. Again, MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK! Most items will need to be placed in the trash or returned to the music room.  Some items will need to go to other classrooms.
NEEDED: Volunteers to wash tablecloths following Dessert Theater. Laundered tablecloths should be returned to the music room by Monday, December 15th.
The chorus will also perform a shortened program for the school on Friday morning, December 19th at 8:15 and 9:15. Chorus members should wear their informal performance outfit (see above) to school.
Please look for the Chorus Notes Newsletter to come home today. If you need another copy you can download one from the "Chorus Notes Newsletter" link on this website.
I have been toying with an idea for our Dessert Theater and have decided to do it, but I need your help. I am looking for pictures of your family members or special friends that you will be missing this year for the holidays. It could be that this person(s) is far away or that they are no longer with us.  I would like to use them in a powerpoint presentation for a song we are singing, Please send the picture to my e-mail address OR send the picture to school for me to scan by Monday (12/8). All pictures will be returned. PLEASE make sure your picture is clearly marked so I know who to return it to. Also, include who this person is and what their relationship is to the chorus member. Thanks!
Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to chaperone our road trip on Wednesday (12/10). The following people will be chaperoning: Sue Axelrod, Julie Bitter, Jack Braz, Starlet Capps, Michele DiSalle, Sheila Meadows, Vicki Pannell, Leslie Riccard, Jennifer Squire, and Angie Wood. If I have missed your name, please let me know.
Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to decorate for our Dessert Theater on Thursday (12/11).  The following people will be decorating: Sue Axelrod, Diane Brose, Starlet Capps, Michelle McLane, Dominique Middleton, Vicki Pannell, Diane Quandt, Jennifer Squire, Vicki White, and Charlotte Wilhoit.  If I have missed your name, please let me know.
We are in need of pine and holly trimmings from your yards for our decorations. If you can donate some clippings, please let me know. We will need them by Thursday (12/11) morning.
Please remember that each family is asked to bring a dessert to share on the dessert buffet table.  Desserts should be brought to the stage Thursday morning.
The program for Dessert Theater will officially begin at 7:00, but the doors will open at 6:30.  Families can begin filling their plates with delicious desserts at that time.
I will be sending home a "Chorus Notes" Newsletter on Monday with reminders for our upcomingweek.
Please remember to send in those pictures! Thanks!!
1. Decorations starting at 2:00 on Thursday, December 11th.
2. Someone willing to be in charge of setting the coffee pots for brewing.
3. Someone willing to clean the coffee pots after we are done.
If you can help with any of these tasks, please send me an e-mail.
We ask that everyone assist in clean-up after Dessert Theater is over.
I am able to send this message to you through TeacherWeb because it is a service outside Cobb County Tech Services. Beginning Friday late afternoon (11/21), ALL e-mail to Cobb County e-mail addresses, as well as the district web page and all other tech services are unavailable due to some upgrades and other service work being done. Please be aware that if you have an e-mail message for me at the Cobb County address it will be unavailable to me until after we return to school. I wanted to let you know this in case you did send a message and were wondering why you have not heard from me!
Thank you to everyone for a successful evening at Publix! Thank you to the chorus members for your outstanding singing. Thank you to the parents for getting your children there. Thank you to everyone for being such a wonderful audience. If you have any pictures of the performance you would like to share, please send them my way so I can put them on the website. Please rememberthat I can not access them until we return to school so it will be after that when they are posed. I will send out a newsflash message when I get them posted.
The results from the auditions for solo and small group auditions were posted Friday afternoon outside of the music room. Thank you to everyone who auditioned!
Please remember - rehearsals on Monday, December 1st and 8th are CRITICAL REHEARSALS!  Attendance is mandatory (unless you are absent from school).
The reserved tables for Dessert Theater have all been reserved. There are no more reserved tables left, BUT THERE WILL BE SEATING FOR ALL!!! I hope you are planning your favorite dessert to make and share.
Decorators needed!!! We will be decorating the lunchroom for Dessert Theater beginning at 2:10 on December 11th. If you are available, please send an e-mail to me. Many hands make light work!!! We will need specific volunteers to prepare the coffee (you would NOT want ME in charge of that). We will also need specific volunteers to take care of the cleaning of the coffee pots at the end of the evening. If you are not available to help decorate, please consider helping clean up.  Mostly it will involve getting items back to classrooms (mostly the music room). Please let me know how you can help! Remember I will not get your e-mail until after I return to school.
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving! If you are traveling, travel safe. If you are
entertaining, enjoy the time you have with your loved ones. If you are spending some quiet time at home, rest! Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Our first performance is at Publix at Macland Pointe (our Partner-In-Education). Chorus members will sing at one of three performances (4:45; 5:30; 6:15). On the chorus registration form, you made your preference selections for this performance. In some cases your preference was either unclear or not made. I am sending home a preference form if I need further clarification. Please have your child put this form in the box on the music room door by Wednesday (10/23). If I don't get your preference form by Wednesday, I will assume you don't have a preference.
Our annual Dessert Theater (Thursday, 12/11) will feature the chorus and recorder ensemble, but will also offer the opportunity to feature small group and solo acts. These acts can be singing, dancing, instrumental playing, etc. Acts should be preferably up to two minutes in length, but with special permission can be up to three minutes. Performances should be holiday themed.  Auditions will be held after school in the lunchroom on
September 15, 2008
Please look for the Chorus Notes Newsletter to come home today. If you need another copy you can download one from the "Chorus Notes Newsletter" link on this website.
Of special note is the necessary change in date for Dessert Theater, originally scheduled for Thursday, December 4th, now Thursday, December 11th. Our last rehearsal before Thanksgiving is Monday, November 17th, with our Publix concert the next day. We would have only one rehearsal the Monday after Thanksgiving (December 1st) before our big night. This gives us the added rehearsal on December 8th to polish and clean! Also, Recorder Ensemble, who will also be performing at Dessert Theater, will be performing the next night (December 5th) at Lovinggood for "A Taste of Lovinggood", which puts those families out and about two nights in a row.
If you have a conflict with December 11th, PLEASE LET ME KNOW NOW! Thank you!
District Honor Chorus participants will be announced by the end of the week.
We had a GREAT first rehearsal! We are in for an exciting year!
You should have received your first issue of "Chorus Notes." If throughout the year the newsletter doesn't find its way to you or you misplace it, you can always download another copy from the "Chorus Notes Newsletter" link on this website.
You also should have received information about the District Honor Chorus. If your child is interested in auditioning for this opportunity, auditions will be held tomorrow morning (9/9) in the music room.  Please make sure you have signed the form for your child to audition. If you need another copy of the audition information and permission, you can download another copy from the "Forms and Other Documents to Download" link on this website.
September 5, 2008
Please remember - chorus rehearsals begin Monday (9/8) after school. It is lining up to be a GREAT year!!! The chorus will meet in the lunchroom until 3:30.
Chorus members will be dismissed from the lunchroom to ASP or the carpool area. Please refrain from entering the building to pick up your child. We ask that you stay in your car and wait in the carpool line. As with the regular carpool line, pull up to the first available pick-up station. This will make carpool proceed quickly and safely.
Chorus payments are due by Monday ($30 if you are paying half; $60 if you are paying for the year.  If you are paying half, the other half is due October 1st). When making a payment, please make sure it is placed in a school payment envelope and the information on the front is completed. LEAVE THE BOX MARKED "FOR OFFICE USE" BLANK.
Watch for a Chorus Notes Newsletter to come home on Monday, as well as an audition form for students interested in auditioning for Honor Chorus.
