Testing Schedule 2009-2010:
Testing days are generally scheduled on the following days each week. From time to time,
it will be necessary to reschedule a testing day. On occasion, testing will be suspended for a whole
week. These dates will be posted on the music room doors as well as posted below.
Tuesday mornings - Bone, Hoyt, Wilkerson
Wednesday mornings - Huss, Lucas
Thursday mornings - Fisher, Gordon, Young
IMPORTANT DATES ARE POSTED ON THE "CALENDAR" LINK ON THE HOME PAGE.
From time to time it will be necessary to change a testing date. If your testing date needs to be
rescheduled, it will probably be scheduled for a Monday or a Friday. On occasion, testing will be
suspended for a whole week. Check the Music Room door and this website for updates.
From time to time, testing will be suspended for a whole week and will only be offered for students
in need of certain belts. This will probably happen most often near the end of the quarter, as well as
the end of October. Check the Music Room door and this website for updates.
To be able to test, you must come to the music room with the paper chip given to you by your
homeroom teacher, along with your own recorder and your music folder.
If you are in Safety Patrol, News Team, or have another regular morning obligation, get a chip from
your teacher and come to test when you are done with your job.
Remember:
• You can work at your own pace, earning as many belts in a quarter as you can (with available
testing opportunities).
• White, Yellow, and Orange belts must be earned in the first quarter.
• Green belt must be earned by the end of the second quarter.
• Purple belt must be earned by the end of the third quarter.
• Regardless of how many belts you earn in a given quarter, you must earn a minimum of one belt
per quarter.
If you want to be in Recorder Ensemble, you must earn your blue belt by the end of October.
Any student who has earned their black belt by the end of the third quarter will be invited to attend
the Black Belt Celebration.

Happy New Year! Regular Recorder Karate testing will resume on Tuesday morning, January 5th,
2010, the day students return to school.

Preference for Recorder Karate Testing the week of December 14th will be given to those students in
need of their green belt or to those students who have not earned a belt during the second quarter.
Students in need of a special testing time to accommodate required belt for this quarter because
they are not able to test during regular scheduled testing times should see Mrs. Grayburn to arrange
a time for testing.
Regular Tuesday morning testing for 12/15 will be held on Monday, 12/14.
Regular Thursday morning testing for 12/17 will be held on Friday, 12/18.

We will have regular Recorder Karate testing this week.
No Recorder Karate testing next week due to District Honor Chorus.
Blue Belt testing ONLY week of October 26th.
No Recorder Karate testing week of November 2nd - no school on 11/3; First Grade PTA
performance week.
Added 10/15: Purple belt testing will be offered on Friday morning, October 23rd for those students
trying to earn their blue belt the following week to get into Recorder Ensemble.

Thank you for the patience everyone has had this week. Most students remembered that regular
morning testing preference would be given to those students needing white, yellow, and/or orange
belts, as well as those who have green and need purple.
I have sent e-mails to each homeroom teacher to identify who these students are so they can give
them first preference on the chips. I have also tested some of these students during music class this
week.
Testing for next week should slow down, which will allow more testing opportunities for those
students trying to reach their blue belt by the end of the month in order to participate in Recorder
Ensemble. Just as preference was given to those needing certain belts this week, preference will be
given to students trying to earn their blue belt the week of October 26th.

Week of October 5th, 2009
This is the last week of the first quarter. Regular morning testing this week will give preference to
those students needing their white, yellow, and/or orange belt, as well as students who have already
earned their green belt and need the purple belt to earn an "O" in music. Additional testing
opportunities will also be offered during music class, as needed, during this week.

I hope everyone is safe and sound following the recent rains and flooding.
Because of school being cancelled on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, make-ups for testing for
these days will be as follows:
Tuesday, September 22nd testing will be held Friday, September 25th.
Wednesday, September 23rd testing will be held Monday, September 28th. Wednesday testing
will also be held Wednesday, September 30th, giving this group two morning testing opportunities
during this week (because they had no morning testing opportunity the previous week).
Please remember that testing will also occur during music class Thursday, September 24th thru
Thursday, October 1st. This testing is IN ADDITION TO morning testing.
