§ This week – The /ôt/ sound - spelled aught and ought
· There are six words that contain the aught spelling: caught, taught, haughty, naughty, daughter, slaughter.
· We will learn this nonsense sentence to remember them: The farmer caught his haughty, naughty daughter and taught her not to slaughter animals.
· All other /ôt/ words are spelled ought. There are seven: ought, bought, fought, brought, sought, thought, wrought
