Merry Christmas, The students are continuing to work on reading skills with much practice in the classroom. Math lessons are focusing on solid shapes like cylinder, cone, sphere and cube, then later we will review plane shapes like circle, triangle, square, rectangle. Bible lessons are focusing on the birth of Jesus. Our big focus in Social Studies will take place this month. Our Christmas Around the World unit has begun. We have covered China, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and Kenya. We have been discussing the Christmas traditions that occur in those countries. Crafts, special snacks, cultural music off of the internet and looking at photos has helped the countries to become more real to the students. This is a very busy time in kindergarten, but the children enjoy it. The student presentations on "their" international children was great last week. Due to so much emphasis on Social Studies during this time we will do very little Science. We will however continue with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as our read aloud book. Our next field trip is THIS Friday. We are going to see "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" in Chattanooga. We will be leaving about 8:30 and returning by lunch. The students have made t-shirts to wear that day thanks to Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Staten. Students will wear their shirts with jeans since it is a Friday. I originally said khaki pants, but forgot that it was on a Friday. We will be back by lunch for those students returning to school. If your child will not be returning, but usually stays all day then you will need to cancel his/her lunch with Mrs. Babb in the lunchroom. The Christmas PTSF presentation last Thursday was so cute. The students did a fantastic job at ushering us into the Christmas season. I would like to remind all of you as well that I will not be at school the Thursday and Friday before Christmas break. We will still have the Christmas party on Friday as schduled. I mean, really, what else could be accomplished that day! Ha! Mrs. Staten will be here on Thursday in my place and Mrs. Touchstone will take the class on Friday. If you have questions about the party then contact Mrs. Staten or Mrs. Brown. Thanks! "Today in the town a David a savior has been born to you: He is Christ the Lord" Luke 2:11
