At Cornerstone Schools our mission is to provide an exceptional educational opportunity, by creating an environment where students are well prepared for whatever adult pursuits they may choose. Through a combination of challenging, creative and thoughtful programs each student will become knowledgeable, independent, respectful and resourceful. Our approach stresses academics, athletics and the arts, mixed with accountability, honesty and ethics all to provide the nurturing foundation from which successful adults can grow. Cornerstone Schools’ Structure Our philosophy of education rests on the Four Cornerstones of Learning: SMALL CLASS SIZE Education research has shown that small class sizes aid in a child’s ability to focus, learn and comprehend his/her coursework. At Cornerstone Schools, small class size is defined more strictly than the student teacher ratio, which is often times confusing and misleading. CUSTOMIZED ONE ON ONE INSTRUCTION Cornerstone Schools are student centered in order to meet the educational needs of each individual student. Within each class of 15 students there are several small groups of children working at their own pace to achieve mastery of the curriculum. FOCUS ON FUNDAMENTALS At Cornerstone Schools, we believe that mastering reading, writing and mathematics is critical in early education. These skills determine the success of a child’s educational career and future success in adulthood. SUCCESSFUL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT In addition to small class sizes, research shows that children learn best in smaller environments. Cornerstone Schools buildings were built and furnished with successful learning in mind: Classrooms and hallways are carpeted to minimize noise. Natural light is available in each classroom to minimize glare and eye strain from florescent lighting. Trees surround the buildings to provide a bird’s eye view of nature right from the classroom. Green plants are found throughout the building to aid in air quality.
