Be a Volunteer

We have many opportunities for you to help in our classroom throughout the year. Once we have an established Room Parent, the PTO will schedule a meeting of all room parents to share guidelines for the year. After this meeting, we will send home a letter to ask you how you would like to volunteer in the class. Remember that volunteering can be very beneficial for you as well as thrilling for your child! Below I am highlighting a variety of opportunites that you can choose to be involved in. There should be something for everyone interested! Thank you as always for all your help and support!

Guest Reader: We will have a guest reader on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 2:00-2:20. Please talk with your child the night before and together choose 1-2 books you would like to share with the class.

Scholastic Orders- This job will be done on a monthly basis. It consists of tallying the order, confirming the total amount of money with me, and calling in the order. This can be completed at school or from your home.

Art Project Preparation- This job can be completed at school or at home and would involve cutting, gluing, holepunching, stapling etc... class sets of items for upcoming projects.

Book Maker- The book maker for the month would make a variety of paper books at home or at school. These will be used in the writing center.

Class photographer- We will need a volunteer to come to special class events and take pictures, develop them, and then send them in to be displayed in the classroom.

Scrapbook- We will be putting together a class scrapbook and will need help in managing the photos and other momentos to be added to the scrapbook.

Chaperones- We will need 5-6 chaperones to attend field trips with us. We will be going on at least 2 field trips during the course of the year.

Holiday helpers- We will be having 3 parties during the year, Christmas, Valentine's, and End of the Year. We will need several volunteers who are willing to coordinate, bake, send in supplies, provide clear beverages, etc. for these events.

Extra Pair of Hands- In addition to the 3 parties, there will be other special days held in the first grade. These always run smoothly when we have extra pairs of hands to help. Room parents will contact you if you sign up that you are interested in this area.

Birthday Guests- On your child's birthday you are welcome to come in and read a book or do a project with the class. Please contact me 2 weeks in advance so that I might plan accordingly for this special time. Please remember that birthday treats (cake, cookies, icecream) should be shared during lunch time in the cafeteria.

Again, thank you for your interest in our class.

We hope to see you soon!!
