How is my final average calculated?

Mr. Wilson uses a points system in which every assignment and quiz is worth a
certain number of points, and at the end of the grading period the total
number of points that you have earned on all assignments, tests, and quizzes
combined is divided by the total number of points that these tasks were
worth.

For instance, say there were only four assignments and they were worth 21
points, 52 points, 8 points, and 12 points. Now lets say your grades for
each (in the same order) were 19, 42, 8, and 11. First, we add the total
number of points that you earned: 19 + 42 + 8 + 11 = 80. Next, we add the
total number of points possible for all four assignments: 21 + 52 + 8 + 12 =
93. Finally, divide the number of points you earned (80) by the total number
of points possible (93), and you get your average: .86, or 86%.

Dont worry if that seems too complicated; you can always find your grade on
I-Parent. Your parents can get the necessary password and login information
from the office.

What's the best way to find out my assignments if I don't have my planner?

Homework assignments are updated nearly every day on Mr. Wilsons website at
teacherweb.com. Just check the Homework section. Of course, you should
always copy the assignments from the board into your agenda book at the
beginning of class each day.

What if I lose a paper or assignment?

Assignments and important papers can be found on my website. Just click on
the name of the paper or assignment that you need and then print it.

May I redo an assignment or retake a quiz for a higher grade?

Yes, you may redo assignments and even most tests and quizzes. However, you
have only one week from the day you get it back to do so.

After redoing an assignment or retaking a test or quiz, your new grade will
be the average of your original grade and the grade of your second try.

What is the best way to contact Mr. Wilson?

You can e-mail me at brian.wilson@cobbk12.org. I check e-mail daily. Please
do not leave a phone message at school as there have been a lot of problems
with my voice mail. My home phone number is available upon request.

What is Mr. Wilsons policy on work turned in late?

One letter grade is deducted for each day late, all the way down 70%. Work
turned in more than three days late will be accepted, but the highest grade
possible will be 70%.

What if I dont do my work or lose it? Will I receive a zero?

Dont even think about it. It is absolutely expected that all work be turned
in. If you dont turn something in, expect to lose privileges. For
instance, rather than doing something fun with the class one day, you will
complete the assignment instead. Or, you may be required to sit at the
silent table during lunch and do your work there. Only acceptable work
counts; unacceptable work must be done over.

Does spelling count?

Yes, but not on tests or quizzes. Spelling words correctly is an important
life skill and can be accomplished even if you are a poor speller. Mr.
Wilson is horrible at spelling but uses a dictionary when in doubt. To get
back the points you lost due to spelling mistakes, correctly write each
misspelled word five times on a sheet of paper and turn it in to Mr. Wilson.

Whats the best way to do well in Mr. Wilsons class?

Participate in class activities and discussions, ask for help when you need
it, turn in assignments on time, and study, study, study for tests and
quizzes.

What if I need extra help?

The first ten minutes of class is a great time to ask for help because that
is when Mr. Wilson gives time for students to work on their Daily Geography
assignments. Also, check on the Links page of his website for links to
educational games and other helpful sites. You may also arrange to come in
before school for help; ask Mr. Wilson for details.

Will I be receiving study guides for tests and quizzes?

Sometimes, but not always. Students need to build independence by listening
in class and making their own study guides. Mr. Wilson will provide
assistance in doing this.
