Are you ready to be a Millionaire?
Research has shown that students who read 1,000,000 words per year
increase their reading ability level and their writing skills by a
tremendous amount.
At the kindergarten level 1,000,000 words is equal to 250 grade level
appropriate books. All reading done by your child and to your child counts
in this total. It does not even matter if the same book is read 250 times!
(Great if your child has a favorite.) We will count the books read at home
as well as books read in school. When your child has read 250 books there
will be many rewards. When our whole class has accomplished millionaire
status we will have a HUGE celebration.
You will receive log sheets to record the titles of the books your
child reads. Read together every night and return logs every day. When you
need more please send me a note in the CAMP Binder and I will send more
home. There is a bulletin board in our classroom where the children (and
parents) can keep track of their progress towards Millionaire status.
