Roles and Responsibilities of the Literacy Coach

The coaches in each Cornerstone school will:
     * Continuously develop their expertise in student and adult learning,   
       literacy, and professional inquiry.
     * Continuously develop their practice as teachers who are accountable   
       for the performance of students, especially in literacy.
     * Provide leadership in literacy acquisition and development for their 
       collegues.
     * Establish demonstration classrooms as examples to replicate for 
       their collegues.
     * Utilize a full range of professional development skills and 
       strategies including:
            +  knowledge of adult learning research,
            +  facilitation of study groups,
            +  demonstration teaching,
            +  co-teaching,
            +  planning and debriefing, and
            +  hosting collegues, parents, and other visitors in their 
               classrooms.
     * Support the involvement of parents in the Cornerstone initiative.
     * Meet weekly with the school principal to plan further development 
       of the initiative.
     * Work closely with the literacy fellow and liaison in the planning and 
       implementation of all Cornerstone activities.
     * Participate in scheduled video conferences with fellow coaches in 
       other Cornerstone districts and related video conferences with     
       Cornerstone staff.
     * Contribute to the Cornerstone newsletters.
     * Participate in each annual Cornerstone Institute, Cornertone Regional 
       Meeting, and a minimum of one school review yearly.
