Homework

Homework is sent home as a weekly packet to reinforce and provide practice
for new skills we are learning in class. It is sent home on Friday so that
you may have the weekend to work on them in addition to school nights.
*Tackle a page a day rather than wait to the last night! YOUR CHILDREN WILL
LEARN THEIR HABITS FROM YOU... if you show them how to have good
organizational skills and a positive work ethic, you will be giving them a
VERY useful tool for life! In addition to work relating to our weekly goals,
any corrected or missed work is sent home for homework and students are
EXPECTED to practice sight words and practice reading nightly from the
readers that we practice in class.

We will move at a very fast pace so take every opportunity to reinforce new
skills at home. Going over our five sight words per week doesn't have to be
a chore; find fun ways to go over them. Play sight word games such as go
fish, or memory, and matching.

We will introduce new letters, word families, and sight words each week.
These basic tools are the keys which will unlock the magic door to reading.

Progress reports are sent home frequently along with instructions on how you
can assist your children in areas of weakness. I have seen children make
leaps and bounds in growth when someone takes time daily to work with them on
specific skills. A few minutes several times an evening would be effective
practice for sight words.

Homework is a critical part of academic success and can be a meaningful time
to spend with students.

As always, if you have questions, you can contact me by including a note in
your child's folder or by calling me.
