The homework assignments for the entire week will be given to students each
Monday. The homework will be sent home in the students' blue "Daily Folder"
along with a homework cover sheet which explains the assignments for the
week's homework. The homework cover sheet also has a place for the parent to
sign, recognizing that the student has done the homework for the week. The
entire homework packet is due on Friday. Hopefully, this arrangement will
allow students some flexibility and time to complete all homework even if
they have to miss a night becuase of family obligations. If a student is
absent on Friday, his or her homework will be due on the following Monday(or
whenever he returns to school). Since the students are given a whole week to
complete their homework, I will not accept homework that is late (unless it
is due to an excused absence or has been cleared by me in advance). I
believe that homework should serve two purposes:
1.) To give the students some extra practice on the concepts we are
working on in class.
2.) To let parents see what we are learning about in class.
Students should not be spending more than about 20-30 minutes on their
homework each night. If they are having to spend much more time than this,
please let me know. I strongly believe that children need some "down time"
with their families after school hours. I don't want a child to spend the
whole evening "stressing out" about homework! I will check each student's
homework each Friday. I do not count off for each mistake, but I do check to
see that the homework packet is complete and that the student put forth
effort on the assignments that were given.
