3rd Grade Animal Effigy Pots
For this lesson, students learned about ancient animal effigy pots, which is a vessel that is shaped into an animal.  They had to choose an animal that represented them in some way and make it into a pot out of clay. There creations turned out wonderful and I was very proud!!!

5th Grade Face Pots/Jugs
For this lesson, 5th graders learned about face jugs and folk art.  They learned about the Meader's family, who live in Northeast Georgia and are famous all over the world for their face jugs or "ugly jugs."  The Meader's face jugs were even on display down here in Columbus at the Columbus Museum last year!  The students then had to create their own piece of pottery out of clay and attach a face to it.  They are not yet finished, but I can't wait to see them when they are done.  More pictures will be posted when the pots are finished.

WE JUST LEARNED:
In 4th grade, we just finished learning about the artist, Henri Rousseau.  Henri Rousseau was a French artist who drew and painted pictures of jungles.  Since he never left France, and he never actually saw a real-life jungle, his paintings came from his imagination.  He also got his inspiration from going to the zoo, botanical gardens, and from looking in magazines and books.  His jungles were very colorful and creative!  Here are some examples of the 4th graders Henri Rousseau Fantasy Jungles:

I have been introducing the Kindergarten classes to clay and teaching them how to make pinch pots.  The students have been learning about glaze (which is a paint used for painting clay that has been fired once in the kiln).  They even got the oppurtunity to look at the kiln (a big oven used for firing clay and pottery).  Here is a picture of some of the finished Kindergarten pinch pots.
