Hi! My name is Chrissie Huckaby and I teach 2nd grade at East Side
Elementary School. I started in February 2003, so the 2008-2009 school year will be my
sixth full year and my seventh group of students. I was formerly known as Miss
Gilroy, but my name changed on October 20th when I married my wonderful husband Ryan, a.k.a.
Huck.
Some of the extra activities I do at school include Foundation board member,
Assistant Director of Encore (4th and 5th grade choir), Drama Club teacher
assistant,After School tutor, and Variety Show teacher skit coordinator.
I grew up in Marietta and attended Mt. Bethel, Timber Ridge, Dickerson, and
Walton. After high school I went to the University of Georgia (GO DAWGS!)
and obtained my degree in Early Childhood Education. I finished
pursuing my Master of Education at Kennesaw State University and graduated
in December 2005...yeah!
Some of my hobbies include singing and performing (I love
musical theatre), scrapbooking, cooking, and spending down time with my husband
Huck, my family, friends, and my dog Cooper. We just bought a new house, so I have had fun
decorating and entertaining!
I am lucky to have a wonderful family. My parents live right here in
Marietta so I am able to see them whenever I want, and I also have 1 brother
and 1 sister.
My brother, Danny, lives in Wilmore, Kentucky and is married with 4
children. My sister, Kathi, lives in Valdosta, Georgia and is married with
one child!
For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a teacher. I am so blessed
to be living my dream!
Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about me!
My goal is for all students to grow and achieve at their own rate. A child’s
education is a journey of exploration, not a race to finish first and get
all E’s. I teach children, not textbooks. I use a variety of tools to teach:
hands on exploration, group discussions, independent work, at school
projects, take home projects, etc. I will work to meet each child’s needs
individually in order to see that they grow this school year.
