Current Events

Purpose:

Dear Parents,

The purpose of the Current Events Notebook is to allow the students to
become aware of what is happening in our community, city, state, country and
around the world. It also gives the students an opportunity to discuss news
issues with you, their parents, and to make connections with their own lives.

Each time it is assigned, the students will be responsible for finding two
articles from the newspaper or the Internet (with parental supervision).
Each article should be cut out/printed and pasted to the notebook on the
left side. On the right side, the students will write a response to the
article. The responses will include writing a paragraph (8-10 sentences)
about one of the following for each article:
Make a connection between the article and your life/family. How
does it remind you of something in our own life?
Discuss the article with your parents/grandparents about how the
article makes you feel.
Explain your feelings as they relate to the article.
How does the information in this article impact your life?
Are there any changes that you and your family can make in your lives as a
result of learning from this article?

** This is NOT a summary of the article. This is a reflection. **

*** Please make sure that you work with your child on this assignment and
carefully monitor where he/she is searching on the Internet.

Thank you for all of your efforts in assisting with this important
home-school connection. Together we are working toward making our students
successful, life-long learners.

Sincerely,

Miss La Vine
