Mrs. Schmidt's Caterpillars to Butterflies

Homework

Dear Parents,

1. Please check your child's "Take Home Folder" each night. There may be
notes from the teacher, school, PTA or Foundation in it. Your child is
responsible to return the folder the next morning and give the teacher any
notes brought from home(including how he/she goes home that day).

2. If a change is made on how a child goes home...it must be in writing and
handed to the teacher on arrival at school. If you check your child out from
school, please do NOT come to the room, but check your child out from the
office. The office will call down to us and your child will meet you at the
office.

3. Your child may have some "Homework" to do. Please see that he/she is
responsible in accomplishing it, returning it the next morning and giving
it to the teacher to check.

4. Try to read with your child every evening. This is a "special time"
between the two of you...one on one. Your child will bring home
his/her "Black Reading Folder" for you two to do together. Inside it there
will be a book to read together, phonemic awareness (recognizing letters and
sounds) chart to go over together and a list of caterpillar words to learn
(kindergarten word list).

5. Please help your child with his/her Kinder Keys if you can every night. Please sit with your child
for a few minutes each night and work with your child the assignment that is inside of the Kinder
Keys folder. If you can, please print it out and have your child bring it to school to show his/her
work. Your child is very proud of all he/she accomplishes and wants to share what they have learned
at home with their teacher.

Above all...have FUN together and enjoy this time with each other...your
attitude toward reading will be reflected in the eyes of your child and will
build upon his/her knowledge for the future. Believe me, this time is too
short and it goes by too fast. Cuddle, read, hug, love...cuddle, read, hug,
love...what a great way to learn to LOVE to read!

Sincerely,
Mary Schmidt
