                                January Updates
Mrs. Stephens' and Mrs. Hayman's Spunky Monkeys 2009-2010

Get ready for an exciting month of hands on learning! It will be a very
fun month as well as a busy one!! The students will return to school on
Tuesday, January 5th. We will be learning about Winter, snow, and how to
dress for January weather. Some great literature will be read with our
January themes. Some of these titles include: The Jacket I Wear in the
Snow, The Snowy Day, The Hat, The Mitten, and more. We will also be learning
about bears, hibernation, penguins (how birds are the only animals to have
feathers and most fly.) We will be discovering different ways to make the
number 100, count to 100, and sort to 100. During Social Studies we will be
experiencing how it feels to be treated differently and how each of us has a
voice. We will learn about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and come up with our
own unique dreams. In Science we will be experimenting with properties of
matter and we will be working with rocks and soil. (We will also be looking
closely at our soil samples the students collected over Thanksgiving break.)
