Hello everyone. Just a friendly reminder that I will be submitting the book orders after tonight so you have until midnight to get them in. On a another note, I completely forgot to pass something out at the end of the day!! So I have it on the kids' desks for when they arrive on Monday but I'd like you to read it so you are aware over the weekend. It can come in on Monday or Wednesday since the kids won't be here on Tuesday. Have a safe and fun weekend! Read on........
Boo Tax 2009
Each year, millions of adults pay income taxes to the federal government. With these taxes, the government is able to spend a great deal of money for the common good (like pay your teacher).
As a child, you have not been able to participate in paying taxes……until now!! This year, you will have an opportunity to pay taxes, with candy that you have successfully begged for on Halloween. Unlike real taxes, this is completely optional. However, please remember that taxes go to benefit the common good.
If you choose to contribute, you will give 10% of your candy. In other words, 1 out of every 10 pieces of candy will go to the classroom. Remember, taxes are collected for the common good.
Taxes are due on Monday, November 2nd (or the 4th). Late penalties will apply on late taxes!

Hello again! I just wanted to give you all an update about our class participation for supporting the foundation. We are currently at 53%. Tomorrow is the last day. I told the kids that no donation is too small so I was looking for at least a dollar donation from the kids that have not donated yet. We get AWESOME opportunities if we have 100% participation from the class. We will definitely get a bouncy blow up party and I love to bounce around with the kids!! The best part............... we get put into a drawing for a FREE FIELD TRIP to the TELLUS SCIENCE MUSEUM!!! So far there are no classes with 100% but they are close. We had a class discussion on probability and how our chance to win could be high if we had 100% participation. So those are the cool immediate rewards for participating but there are so many more rewards. Have you heard your child talk about First in Math? Foundation bought the program for us. Foundation gives me additional money to purchase great materials. They paid to have an amazing woman come in and train us on writing. They purchased my LCD projector and wireless remote. They purchased a new playground. I can go on and on!! Please help support the school and support our chances of going to the Tellus Museum. Tomorrow is the last day! Thanks!! :)

Hello everyone. Wow, what a crazy week we had last week!! Monday folders did not make it home today. They will be sent home tomorrow! I will be updating the online grades tomorrow. I will send out another
newsflash as soon as I have it finished so be on the lookout.
Hopefully your children have been working on their PTA Reflections! This year's theme is "Beauty Is." There are many different categories so your child can pick whatever they want to do. I'd like the reflections by Friday, October 16th. We will share them with each other. I will turn them into PTA on the 19th. Beauty is everywhere, kids can pick something that they are good at, and someone from our class may even win the competition! I hope everyone enjoys. Parents email me if you have questions.
I'm sure many of you have heard about Clarkdale Elementary and their flooding. We are trying to help them out here at East Side so here is what you can do.
Each grade level will be responsible in collecting specific items to be
donated from now to next Friday, October 2nd. You may donate an item from the following list:
K - Crayons, Colored Pencils, Center-Time Stuff (blocks), Various Story Books
1st - Construction Paper
2nd - Pencils, Markers, Motivation Stickers, Supply Box for students
3rd - Tape, Glue Sticks, Scissors, Paper Clips

Hello everyone! We had our very first roots test last week and many students weren't as successful as I know they can be. Students really begin to learn how to study in 4th grade and this is a perfect example. The students that did not earn either an A, B, or C will be retaking the roots test on Monday, September 21st. The roots being tested are: photos, graph, tele, metron, tropos, philia, phobos, syn, thesis, and kinesis. Students will have to match the root to its meaning. They will then have to give me one word that comes from the root and the definition for that word. We always write 3 examples on the root cards so they have 3 choices for each root. Spelling does not count as long as I can sound it out. Good luck and study, study, study!!

Hello everyone! I am so appreciative of my wonderful class. I was able to complete DRA testing on each student between Wednesday and Thursday. This testing will give me a better idea of what kind of readers I have. The one part I'm done with was very insightful! Now I will analyze the student responses in order to obtain even more information.
On another excellent note, we filled our marble compliment jar! YEAH!!! Today we voted on different celebration ideas and our camp out day was the winner. We will celebrate our achievement on Monday, September 14th. Students may dress in their pajamas, bring a blanket/sleeping bag, stuffed animal, and their favorite books. Our celebration will begin after recess and last until the end of the day. They definitely deserve it!! We are already on our way to filling it up again!

Hello everyone! I am certainly enjoying my class and I hope that my students are enjoying class also. I just wanted to remind everyone that Open House is this Thursday at 6:30. Thursday is also individual picture day. Open House is very important to attend. I will be going over all of my expectations and procedures for the entire school year. I'm sure many of you have questions about what we do and how we do it. I will be able to answer those questions and give you helpful information. Please mark your calendars and find childcare for this important event. Only parents are to attend.
On another note, I was unable to get the graded papers ready and into the Monday folders. I didn't prioritize things correctly when I worked this weekend!! I will be sending these papers home tomorrow with your children. Please ask your child for their graded work. This will always be sent home in the Monday folders from now on. I apologize for the confusion. I know I'm training you to look for that kind of stuff on Monday nights!!
I hope to see everyone Thursday night.
