Hello! My name is Liz Wood and I teach at East Side Elementary. This is
my seventh year teaching. I taught fourth grade my first year and third grade
during my second year of teaching. My third year brought on an exciting
opportunity and I was able to loop with my third graders to fourth grade.
Fourth grade is my favorite grade to teach because I LOVE the curriculum.
I received my undergraduate degree from Mercer University in 2003. Later,
I received my graduate degree from Kennesaw State University in December of
2005. During the summer of 2006, I was sent to Japan through the
International Educators to Japan program. I was one of four teachers selected
out of the entire state of Georgia! I learned a lot about their education
system and their culture. It was an experience of a lifetime! I finished
working on the gifted endorsement program in the summer of 2007. Last year, I
applied for a two year science and math grant and I was accepted. My classes
began in July and I can't wait to use what I have learned this year. It is
going to be an awesome learning experience! I absolutely love learning and I
just can't seem to stop signing up for things to better my education! I am
also very involved here at East Side.
I have two wonderful children. Their names are Ody and Venus. Ody is a
Pug and he is 5 years old. Venus is a Boston Terrier and she is 9 years old.
We used to love spending time at the dog park and lake whenever possible.
Venus loved to go swimming! She used to swim like a motor boat! Ody would just
run up and down the shore barking and howling because he's a little to heavy
to swim. That all changed when Ody broke his elbow getting out of the
car back in March of 2009. He finally got better this summer but I haven't
taken them out to play a the park or lake yet. I guess I'm just a nervous mom!!
As a child, I always knew that I would someday become an elementary
school teacher. My dreams have most definitely come true! But, there was a
lot of extremely hard work involved. The hard work has paid off because I
know I have the best job in the world! I love learning and I love teaching. I
hope my love passes onto my students. Of course, most people know that I
loooooooove science! I have even met one of my childhood heros, Bill Nye the
Science Guy.
I was born in Zaragoza, Spain but I grew up in Florida. I moved to
Georgia when I was 17 and I attended Walton High School. I have a sister that
is ten years older than me. She is married and has two boys. They live right
by East Side. Both of my nephews attend Sope Creek Elementary.
I enjoy being active and I have always loved music. I have played the
violin, viola, and bass. The string bass was my favorite and I played it for
about four years. I also love to sing! I was in chorus through elementary,
middle, and high school. Basketball and softball were my favorite sports. I
was on a few teams growing up.
