Hello! My name is Liz Wood and I teach at East Side Elementary. This is
my fifth year teaching. I taught fourth grade my first year and third grade
during my second year of teaching. My third year brought on an exciting
opportunity and I was able to loop with my third graders to fourth grade.
Fourth grade is my favorite grade to teach because I love the curriculum. I
received my graduate degree from Kennesaw State University in December of
2005. During the summer of 2006, I was sent to Japan through the
International Educators to Japan program. I was one of four teachers selected
out of the entire state of Georgia! I learned a lot about their education
system and their culture. It was an experience of a lifetime! I finished
working on the gifted endorsement program this summer. I was accepted into a
two year science and math grant program that I was going to begin this summer
but a previously scheduled trip got in the way so I had to give up my spot.
But I am the first name on the waiting list if anyone else has to drop it. I
absolutely love learning and I just can't seem to stop signing up for things
to better my education! I am also very involved here at East Side. Other
activities I am involved in are the Morale Team, Positive Discipline
Committee, Team Leader, and Social Committee Facilitator.
I have two wonderful children. Their names are Ody and Venus. Ody is a
Pug and he is 3 years old. Venus is a Boston Terrier and she is 6 years old.
We love spending time at Piedmont Park when we get a chance. Venus loves to
go swimming in Lake Allatoona. She is like a motor boat! Ody runs up and down
the shore barking and howling because he's a little to heavy to swim. I have
tried to teach him but he just sinks!
As a child, I always knew that I would someday become an elementary
school teacher. My dreams have most definitely come true! But, there was a
lot of extremely hard work involved. The hard work has paid off because I
know I have the best job in the world! I love learning and I love teaching. I
hope my love passes onto my students. Of course, most people know that I
loooooooove science! I have even met one of my childhood heros, Bill Nye the
Science Guy.
I was born in Zaragoza, Spain but I grew up in Florida. I moved to
Georgia when I was 17 and I attended Walton High School. I have a sister that
is ten years older than me. She is married and has two boys. They live right
by East Side. One of my nephews attends Sope Creek.
I enjoy being active and I have always loved music. I have played the
violin, viola, and bass. The string bass was my favorite and I played it for
about four years. I also love to sing! I was in chorus through elementary,
middle, and high school. Basketball and softball were my favorite sports. I
was on a few teams growing up.
