Dear Parents,
Hope everyone has had a nice Monday. Friday, the 13th, your child may bring $1 and wear a hat to school to support the United Way. (I believe this will be the last donation day for United Way.)
Please encourage your child to bring in loose change, in a bag with his/her name, teacher's name, and grade written on the outside. The loose change is in being donated to to our "One for Books" project. The money we collect will be used to purchase books for Norton Park Elementary School. We will use any additional donations to help support The Fragile Kids Foundation - to help support medically fragile kids right here in Georgia. For every dollar we raise, Scholastic will donate a book to one of the above mentioned charities. The top 3 classes will receive $100 in books for their classroom and the top class will also get passes to Pump It Up!
Over the next several weeks we will continue to cover the following topics:
Language Arts - "Activating Background Knowledge" to help with comprehension
Writing - summarizing information/responding to literature
Math - multiplication facts (division & geometric figures will be coming soon!)
Science - Soil/Habitats & Organisms
Social Studies - Paul Revere, Frederick Douglas, and Susan B. Anthony
We will be focusing heavily on the three historical people mentioned above. I have given the students 9 activity choices to choose from. They will be working, in class, to complete their first project within the next week. At home: please encourage them to collect information, props, materials, etc...they may need in order to complete their project in class. (Our Paul Revere projects are due on, or before, Friday, Nov. 13th)
Thank you and please don't hesitate to let me know if there are any questions/comments,
Leslie Jones
