In Language Arts last week, we again worked in our Guided Reading groups.  This time we read fictional text.  Students were able to make inferences (good, logical guesses) about what would happen in the story. They wrote summaries of fiction when they finished reading their book.  Our read aloud for the week was More Than Marionettes.  After learning about the many different kinds of puppets and where they all come from, we made our own hand puppets.  They are awesome.  And even better than the puppets, are the scripts that the groups wrote for a scene in a puppet show.  We hope to perform for our Book Buddies this coming Friday.

In Math, we continued our study of multiplication with breaking apart arrays. Now, the students have 7 different strategies to help them multiply.  Please continue to have your child review his or her multiplication facts daily.  We will finish up with a few tricks to help us with our 9s and 10s, a foldable for the properties, and lastly, multiply with 3 factors.  The Multiplication test will be on Thursday.

In Social Studies, we are learning about Paul Revere.  We worked with a partner on an internet webquest, and we watched a very informative video from the book And Then What Happened Paul Revere?

Thank you to Arth’s mom for being our guest reader.  We enjoyed a book by the author of our last Art Adventure.  It included information on two Americans who we will study in Social Studies later this year, so that was a pleasant surprise.  Thank you also to Ryan’s family for the prize box donations and to Annabelle’s family for allowing her to bring in the cool puppets and marionettes.

Alex celebrated his birthday on Tuesday.

Congratulations to Sam and Alice!  Their classmates elected them Student Council representatives.  I was proud of all of the students who gave speeches and made posters.  Everyone did a terrific job.

East Side’s Book Fair is coming soon.  Loose change is being collected in order to purchase books for needy children.

I hope that you have a great weekend.
