CLASS:
Third Grade
(770) 578-7200:
I am a native Atlantan and this is my fifth year teaching third grade. I am
married to a retired college instructor and curriculum designer. We have two
children, three grandchildren, and of course, I cannot leave out our two
border collie/shepherd puppies.
I graduated from Georgia State University with honors and introduced
Augusta, Ga. to Science Fairs. My teaching philosophy has always meant
involvement. Students need to participate and be a part of their learning
process. Statistics prove that when students experience concepts rather than
merely learn them their rate of recall and ability for application is far
greater. One thing I do not want in my classroom is a bored or frustrated
student.
I look forward to working with all the parents and students in my class and
expect we will have an exciting year!
My mission for this 'Can Do Third Grade Class' is to help each student feel
empowered to tackle any obstacle they face. I want them to know there are
resources available, what they are, where to find them, not to be timid to
ask for assistance, to be willing to take chances in their exploration for
knowledge, and not to be afraid or ashamed of constructive criticism. My
desire is for each student to realize that none of us is perfect and we all
make mistakes and that it is okay as long as we learn from our mistakes. I
want the classroom to be a safe place where they can just be themselves,
explore and test their "what ifs" and find learning fun.
