What is the Target Curriculum?

Gifted services must meet Georgia Performance Standards while providing
differentiated curriculum based on the assessed needs of the students. This
gifted curriculum includes a more elaborate, complex, and in-depth study of
major ideas, problems and themes than would ordinarily be available in the
regular classroom. The curriculum blends instruction in math, science,
social studies and language arts into units that examine central themes,
issues, problems and topics.

Continuation Criteria

A student must:
Maintain satisfactory progress, defined as E, G, O, or S in grades K-3
(reading, English, mathematics, science and social studies) and as a minimum
average 80% in grades 4-5 in the core subjects of reading, English,
mathematics, science, and social studies.

Demonstrate at least 14 out of the 20 assessment indicators on the Target
Progress Report.

Will my child have to be retested every year?

No, however they must meet the Continuation Criteria. Criteria for continued
placement shall include satisfactory
performance in both regular education and gifted classes, as well as
provisions for a probationary period.
