| WELCOME BACK!!!
I hope everyone had an excellent break and is ready to begin the second half of our year!
We will be jumping right back into the swing of things, there's no time to waste! Here is what's
happening:
In READING and WRITING, we are finishing up our unit on informational texts and writing by completing
our Reindeer Research Papers! We have learned a lot about these enchanted creatures and I can't wait
to see how our papers turn out.
In MATH, we will remain in our current math compacting classes for the next two weeks. My class is in
the middle of our unit on Geometry (my favorite subject) and will be learning all the ins and outs of
plane figures and solid figures. There is a LOT of vocabulary in these two chapters so please make sure
your child is keeping up with all his/her terms at home.
While we have temporarily moved away from SCIENCE and SOCIAL STUDIES, we are learning about our
bodies in HEALTH. We have mastered the Respiratory System and are moving on to the Cardiovascular
System! After this unit we will be learning about nutrition and how to keep our bodies healthy!
NEW THIS SEMESTER:
*Reading Logs - Because we have had some concerns about our children's lack of interest in reading at
home, I have decided to give this reading log a try. Just like the planner, the reading log needs to be
signed nightly where your child has recorded what he/she has read that evening. These will be stapled
to their Take Home folders for convenience.
*Accelerated Reader - We will be beginning AR by incorporating it into our Literacy Centers. Your child
will have the opportunity, at least once a week, to take AR quizzes on the books they have read.
By implementing these two things, I am hoping to increase their motivation to read!
I am excited about our fresh start this semester and all the new things we are going to be covering!
