What does the counselor do?
The counselors teach classroom guidance, lead small groups, and meet with
individual students. Additionally, the counselors consult with teachers and
parents to support student success. The counselors are also familiar with
the many community resources available for our East Side families.

What type of degree does a counselor have?
A counselor has a Masters degree in Guidance and Counseling.

What type of groups are offered at East Side?
Groups meet for approximately 6 - 8 weeks, once per week and are formed
according to the needs of our students. In a typical school year, there
will be Friendship groups, Family Change groups, Study skills groups,
Newcomers groups, and School Behaviors groups.

What other programs are the counselors involved in?
The counselors take an active roll with the attendance and tardy issues at
East Side. They coordinate the Caught Being Good and Student of Month
Programs and the reward luncheons. They also plan the Birthday Celebrations
each month.

What is the counselors' role in RTI?
The counselors act as case managers for their grade levels. They coordinate
and schedule meetings and take care of keeping the process moving from start
to finish.
