Spanish III: January 8, we discussed our Christmas vacations in Spanish. We
read and discussed the Fondo Cultural on p 66 about Picasso and
Cubism. We especially discussed what cubism is and specific
paintings by Picasso in the classroom, Guernica and Don
Quixote. We also discussed the sculptor and painter, Joan
Miró. For tonight please read pp 68-69 and be prepared for
questions over anything we discussed today or anything on these
two pages on the daily quiz tomorrow.
January 9, we took a daily quiz on the cultural information and
vocabulary discussed and assigned yesterday. We discussed Dina
Burstyn, Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, Salvador Dalí, and Joan
Miró today. For tonight please go through pp 72-73 and be
prepared for a daily quiz on any of that information and the
artists we covered today.
January 10, we took a daily quiz over the information covered
this week. We started listening to the chapter video on the
hispanic arts and filling in the blanks of the video script.
January 11, we took a daily quiz over the information presented
this week and continued working on the video.
January 14, we discussed a lot of business today about upcoming
events with honor societies, trips, etc. Please stay tuned to
announcements about all of that. We finished working with the
chapter 2 video today. Keep your video script to study from
whenever we take our next major test.
January 15, we started the subjunctive today. Please review the
notes over cabeza and corazón.
January 16, we continued discussing cabeza/corazón and practiced
with numerous examples to understand the rules for both groups.
Please study the notes you have been given. Daily quizzes to
January 17, we continued discussing cabeza/corazón and
practicing. We did not take the quiz today, but we will
tomorrow. Make sure you are studying the notes you have.
January 18, we reviewed briefly over the rules for
cabeza/corazón and mapped out a thinking strategy on the board.
We took a quiz using the subjunctive for both groups in
sentences, and then discussed the answers to the quiz. Please
make sure you study your notes for next week as daily quizzes
January 22, we took a daily quiz over the rules for
cabeza/corazón and using the subjunctive in sentences. We
discussed the answers to the quiz afterwards. Please review pp
126-128 in Ch 3B to refamiliarize yourself with the vocabulary
in this part of the chapter.
January 23, we took another daily quiz focusing on the concepts
of cabeza/corazón and the use of the subjunctive. We discussed
the answers after the quiz. We finished a practice exercise
together. For tonight, please complete pp 42-46 in the Core

January 28, we pronounced, defined, and discussed the
vocabulary for Ch 3B. Tomorrow we will have a quiz over 1-20.
We finished discussing the exercises in Core Practice assigned
for homework. We also looked a the Indicative Verb Tense Review
that is available on both websites.
January 29, we took a quiz over 1-20 Ch 3B vocabulary. We read
and discussed several activities in the textbook between pp 129-
139 and practiced with the use of the subjunctive.
January 30, we used a daily quiz like our previous ones to
practice with cabeza/corazón as a group. Read pp 140-141 and
answer the comprehension questions after the reading. Tomorrow
we will discuss it.
January 31, we took a quiz over 21-40 Ch 3B vocabulary. We
discussed the reading on pp 140-141 in the textbook. We watched
several short videos on the same topic of the reading.
February 1, we worked in Guided Practice completing pp 105-111
for review of vocabulary and the use of the subjunctive. We
began to discuss the answers and will finish on Monday. We will
have a test next week over this chapter that will focus on
cabeza/corazón and the use of the subjunctive, the chapter
vocabulary, the culture discussed, and the themes covered in
the entire chapter on health and nutrition.
February 4, we finished discussing the review activities in
Guided Practice that we did in class on Friday. We started with
the Ch 3 test review by discussing what the essential
information was in the culture reading on pp 140-141, and where
to review for answers to the other essay questions based on the
chapter themes. For tonight, finish sections 1-3 of the
worksheet. Essay planning will be checked on Wednesday. The
test will be Wednesday.
February 5, we discussed sections 1-3 of the review worksheet.
Please have essay preparations done by tomorrow before the
February 6, we took the Ch 3 test and everyone had to finish
through the essay portion today. You will have time to work on
February 7, we finished the essay portion of the test. For
those who needed a little more time due to the shortened
classes today, you will be able to finish tomorrow.
February 8, all tests were completed today. We started Ch 4 by
defining the vocabulary on pp 154-157, reading the grammar
notes, and doing exercises on those pages.
February 11, we started Chapter 4. For tonight please read
through pp 160-162, answer activity 2 on p 161, and respond to
the questionnaire in the reading on p 162.
February 12, we discussed the reading and vocabulary activities
on pp 160-162, and the significance of Carnaval and Lent in the
February 13, we finished discussing pp 160-163 and completed
the listening activities on those pages. We wrote the review
vocabulary for this chapter. Quizzes will be Friday and next
Wednesday. The 4A list quizzes will be next Friday, then Monday

February 14, we finished writing the vocabulary for Ch 4 review
and 4A. We defined the words for the first two quizzes.
February 15, we took a quiz over 1-22 Ch 4 review vocab. We
finished definitions through the first quiz of 4A. We read the
lyrics to a Juanes song that has a similar theme as our chapter
and we listened to that song. Quiz on Wednesday over the rest
of Ch 4 review words.
February 20, we took a quiz over 23-45 Ch 4 review vocabulary.
We discussed the definitions for the words on Monday's list.
For tonight please finish Core Practice pp 49-54.
February 21, we discussed the exercises in the Guided and Core
Practice workbooks. Tomorrow we will have a vocab quiz over 1-
20 Ch 4A.
Spanish IV: January 8, we wrote about our Christmas vacations and our
Christmas vacations and then shared our writing with the class.
Fours in fourth period worked on their presentation in the
Media Center, and fours in fifth period participated with AP.
Make sure you bring headphones for the computer for the rest of
the week. Red Folders are due this week. Listening Charts are
also due on Friday. Still 45 minutes for 100 and 30 minutes for
a 90. There will be further restrictions on these soon. If you
listen to the longer podcasts, you have to write at least a one
page summary about it.
January 9, both AP and Spanish 4 practiced taking the National
Spanish Exam in lab 192 today. We will do this all week, so be
sure to bring ID cards to be able to participate and also bring
headphones for the proficiency sections. AP should be
practicing level 4, and Fours should be practicing level 5.
January 10-11, both AP and Spanish 4 continued practicing the
NSE online. Red Folders and Listening Charts were due on Friday.
January 14, we discussed all the things coming up with honor
societies, immersion camp, the France/Spain tour for summer of
2014, the NSE and High School Composition Contest, and changes
in the listening requirements and journal requirements. We have
a new vocabulary list for quizzes this week on Wednesday -
January 15, we defined half of the new vocabulary. Tomorrow we
we will have the Spanish 4 presentation in 4th period, and we
we will play a game in 5th. Please think up what you might say
when you are stuck in the middle of the circle - and in several
January 16, we took quiz 1 Pasatiempos. The Fours presented to
the AP class about the gypsy culture in Spain during 4th period.
5th period played a game. Keep practicing the NSE at home for
your level, and other levels to review.
January 17, we took quiz 2 Pasatiempos. We finished the
definitions for the vocabulary and quizzes will continue
through Tuesday. Fours started Spanish history. We played a
game in 4th period. Remember Green Folders and Listening Charts
January 18, Green Folders and Listening Charts were due today.
We finished definitions for Tuesday's quiz. Fours continued
working on Spanish History.
January 22, we took quiz 4 of Pasatiempos. Fours presented on
the gypsy culture in 5th period. In both classes we started the
introduction to Don Quijote. Fours are now working on Spanish
history and the plan is: Monday - study questions completed,
Tuesday - test over the information in Ch 1-2, and Wednesday
- presentation to AP class. Reading Charts are on Bolivia this
week and Yellow Folders will be due.
January 23, we finished notes on the introduction to Don
Quijote. The first quiz will include questions on this data. We
read Ch 1 DQ together, defined the vocabulary, and answered the
study questions. Tomorrow there will be a quiz over the context
of the story, the notes we took, and the vocabulary for Ch 1,
Part 1. Fours planned geography presentation and worked on
January 24, we took quiz 1 Don Quijote, and discussed the
answers afterward. We read Ch 1 part 2 individually and
together, defined the vocabulary, and answered the study
questions. Fours continued working on their project.
January 25, we took quiz 2 Don Quijote. We read Ch 1 part 3
individually and together, defined the vocabulary, and
answered the study questions. Fours continued working on their
January 28, we took a quiz over Ch 1 part 3 of Don Quijote. We
read Ch 2 part 1 individually and together, defined the
vocabulary, and answered the study questions. Fours turned in
the study questions on the geography of Spain. Tomorrow there
will be a test over this section of the history book, and
Wednesday Fours will present that information to the AP class.
January 29, we reviewed Ch 2 Part 1 of DQ, and then took the
quiz on that section. We read silently and then together Ch 2
Part 2. Fours took a test over their current assignment.
January 30, we reviewed Ch 2 Part 2 of DQ, and then took the
quiz on that section. We read silently and then together Ch 2
Part 3. Fours finished their test, and continued planning their

February 1, we reviewed Ch 2 Part 4 of DQ, and then took the

February 4, we reviewed Ch 3 Part 1 of DQ and then took a quiz
over that section. We read silently and together Ch 3 Part 2.
Fours continued working on their presentation.
February 5, we reviewed Ch 3 Part 2 of DQ and then took a quiz.
We read silently and then together Ch 3 Parts 3 and 4. The quiz
will be over both of these sections tomorrow. Fours finished up
working on their presentation and will present in class
February 6, we reviewed Ch 3 Parts 3 and 4 and then took that
quiz. We had a presentation from the Fours on the geography of
February 7, Fours finished their presentation on Spain's
geography. We read Ch 4 Don Quijote, and there will be a quiz
on the entire chapter on Monday.
February 8, we finished reading Ch 4 Don Quijote. Fours started
their presentation on major cities of Spain.
February 11, we discussed all of Ch 4 Don Quijote. Tomorrow we
will take that quiz. Tonight read Ch 5 Don Quijote, and we will
have that quiz on Weds. Fours worked on their next

AP book. Fours will study for a test on major cities of Spain.
February 21, we discussed the vocabulary for next week. Fours
continued studying Spanish cities.
