Classroom News

We have some lunch changes next week for the Thanksgiving Feasts. The lunchroom will be serving
turkey lunches. Our special day is Wednesday, 11-18 from 12-12:45. We will be eating in our
classrooms on Tuesday - 11:15-11:45 and Thursday 11:27-11:57.

I just wanted to give you a heads up. We will be having a Turkey Celebration
on Wednesday, November 18th. Our class has started writing "Turkey Tales"
and would like to share them with you all. You are invited to come to our
classroom after our Thanksgiving lunch on November 18. You may eat
Thanksgiving lunch with your child at 12-12:45 and then come to our classroom
for "Turkey Tales" from 12:24-1:45. We are looking forward to this.
Children will also need to bring in items to decorate a turkey on November 12
and 13. Items such as lace, buttons, ribbons, fabric, ... No food items
please. We have talked about this, so your child will hopefully have an idea
of what he/she wants to bring in.

An invitation to participate in this year's Veteran's Wall of Honor, as well
as a copy of the scroll (with instructions) has been placed on our school
website (THANKS GWEN!). This is a wonderful way to honor those family
members that have served in our military.

I am adding an assignment for the children to do each Thursday for homework.
I have links on my web site. There is a link to a math site "virtual math"
which has some wonderful practice. I want the children to work on counting
money and counting back change. Please have them do this each Thursday, then
if you all will write in the agenda each Friday that they did this on
Thursday evening. We have done this in class, so they should be familiar with
this. Thanks for your support. I am seeing notes in agenda's that your
children are using the web site and doing the money problems. Thank you so
much.

NOW we are adding multiplication practice. Each time you see on the
agenda "get real deal signed and correct" that means that you are to sign the
35 second multiplication test. Correcting it means that they have to write
that table the number of times as the number they missed. For example if a
child misses 3 problems on the 4's tables "real deal" he/she has to
write the 4's tables 3 times. Feel free to call me if you do not understand
this. The class is really excited about multiplication. I am so happy to
see this, but they MUST practice EVERYDAY! This is the only way they will be
able to memorize them.

I am so proud of the children that are doing the "Different ways to write
sentences." They are doing really well with this! This will be every
Wednesday. To save paper I am going to send one copy home of the "Different
ways to write sentences." Your child may write the sentences on notebook
paper using the rules on that sheet I send home.

Please notice that I put the media center days on our calendar. Be sure your
child has his/her book on that day to return or renew.

Please be sure your child wears tennis shoes on PE and music days. The
specials rotation is above. I also have the children write the specials in
their agenda.

Please save your Pike Nursery receipts and send them to school. Our gardens
benefit from this extra
money earned.

If your child misses school for a doctor's or dentist appointment you must
get a note from that doctor's office. No child is allowed to be checked out
after 2:00 PM.

During lunch children are only allowed to charge lunch. They will not be
allowed to charge drinks or extras.

Remember to continue to sign the agenda and the reading log each day. It is
so important that your child read for at least 15 minutes each day.
