Words Their Way: 
long u (cvce – ex: mule) Long u sound spelled “oo” (cvvc – ex: bloom)
Long u sound spelled “ui” (cvvc – ex: suit),  short u  (cvc – ex: bump) 

Topic Words:  Students will need to learn these terms and be able to use
              them in telling time. Practice nightly by asking them to tell
              you time in different ways.
half-hour –   equal to 30 minutes					
day – 24 hours
half past –  30 minutes past the hour (Ex: 2:30)
hour – 60 minutes
quarter past –   equal to 15 minutes past the hour (Ex: 2:15)
minute – 60 seconds
quarter to – 15 minutes till the hour (Ex: 2:45)

HOMEWORK
Monday: Language Arts pg. 8 only,  Math page 56,  Study topic words
Tuesday:  Spelling in journal, write 4 words to go with each pattern, 
          write a sentence using a word from each pattern.  Math sheet, 
Wednesday: Language Arts pg. 10,  Math sheet,  Study topic words
Thursday:  Know topic words, use a book from home to complete the story
           organizer, remember the details should be only phases not complete
           sentences. We will be writing from this.

WE ARE STUDYING:  Language Arts integrated with Social Studies on the study 
of the character traits of James Oglethorpe, Tomochichi, and Mary Musgrove; 
comprehension activities, sequencing, modeling of how to write a  “response 
to literature”, creative writing, identifying important details, Math focus 
on telling time, half past, quarter past, quarter to

Notes: 
Monday – Science Lab,   Performing Arts - 10:45,  
Wednesday – Counselor 10:00,   Fun Run for Second Grade – 10:45- 11:45

Red Ribbon Week
Monday – Classroom door decorating contest begins, red ribbon given out to
         wear daily.
Tuesday – “Put a Cap on Drugs” – Wear your favorite hat, wristbands handed
           out.
Wednesday – “Sock it to Drugs” – Wear silly/mismatched socks for the Fun Run
             that day.
Thursday – “Turn your Back on Drugs” – Wear clothes backwards/inside out.
Friday – “Wear Red Day”  - Students sign the pledge bulletin board outside
          the café. Door decorating contest winner announced at rally and
          prize awarded.
