Homework

PROCEDURES
Homework will be in the form of a weekly packet. It comes home on Fridays
and is due the following Friday. 3rd grade tried this new homework procedure
last year and it worked great. It allows you and your child to work out your
own homework schedule. We realize that life is hectic and hope that doing
homework this way helps.

The spelling list for the week is attached to the homework packet. Spelling
tests will be given each Friday.

In addition to the packet, students can earn bonuses by reading at home each
week. I encourage students to read or be read to nightly at home. Students
should record those reading minutes on their reading log. The third grade
reading goal is 100 minutes a week, 400 minutes a month. Your child should
record their minutes on their reading log, and return it to school at the
end of each month. This is optional but HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. It is better to
read each night and not save it only for the weekend. :) Make the reading log
YOUR CHILD'S RESPONSIBILITY. Please don't make up the minutes, even when
things get hectic and it seems you just can't fit in the reading. This is
the honor system and remember that your child will learn to be responsible.
You can download Reading Log forms on the Parent Resource page.

Homework is meant to be a way for your child to INDEPENDANTLY practice skills
from class. Some students may finish quickly while others find it
challenging. Homework is not intended to teach new concepts. If your child
needs additional practice for enrichment or remediation please take advantage
of the many links on our class page and the 3rd grade page.
